Any adults accompanying those children may wish they were watching the Hoskins and Leguizamo film instead.

There is virtually no chance of this being true in my case. But then again I'm one of those rare people who didn't let the Star Wars ST magically validate the PT by comparison.

Just based on what they have shown, to me the movie just feels like a Mario universe theme park rather than a solid dedicated story arc movie. I'm sure fans that just love seeing Mario type things will love it but for actual film fans it is a major pass.

Well, given it doesnt seem to be working right and I cant see any reviews, Id wait and see if thats even going to be the score. But either way, they arent comparing it to that movie. Theyre comparing it to other, current movies. And since its such a big name, its gonna have reviews from serious reviewers or other people who wouldnt normally review kids movies. But in the end, its a kids movie. So I wont be surprised if the score is lower.

I'm not gonna lie, I actually borderline hold a grudge against people who now consider the original SMB movie as some kind of 'so bad it's good' camp classic. That movie made me genuinely depressed as a kid - not only was it thoroughly awful in its own right, but it was my first experience with a piece of media from an otherwise-beloved source letting me down that badly.
