Ehhhh... I liked that it was a little more character driven and introspective, which made the action beats that much more powerful. The later seasons are practically trying to be summer blockbuster action movies.

what new viewers won't like is the pacing or how much focus there is on visuals. people want to see story progress not minute long scenes of camera zooming in on mundane tasks at interesting perspective. they want to be able to consume a show as fast as possible while also browsing their phone.

for real. ive seen it a few times and i love it so im biased, but ive seen the "hate" (or whatever you wanna call it) of season 1 and i just dont get it. ive tried to watch it with a lens of a new viewer where everything is fresh and a mystery and all that, but i cant figure out how that's not sticking people. these mfs hook you in with an rv chase, man in his underwear, gas masks, all that noise - all that in episode 1. then episode 2 youve got a dead body and how to kill the other one. then how do we cook more, sell more, etc., meeting tuco, and ending with "this is not meth" followed by tuco murdering that dude with his fists just because he said "just remember who youre working for"

how the FUCK is that not gripping people

My only gripe with the show is that it fell into the same trap that Weeds before it, and Ozark after it did.

The show got too successful for the story it was originally telling, so they had to make the stories and situations grander and grander, which made them less and less believable as the season's went on.

The first season is still S-tier TV, it's just that the best parts of Breaking Bad weren't fleshed out or introduced until Season 2.

So far he's still in over his head and its almost annoying how much he quits and then gets back to dealing drugs in the span of like an episode lol this is what his like 5th time saying he's done selling and then cooking again?

The first season is a little weaker than the rest, with some things like the bath collapse being kind of an eye roller. It also has some of BB's best sequences though like the pass-the-pillow.

Walter is the one who dragged Jesse into making meth with him while having a DEA brother in law. Jesse got the absolute shit beat out of him by the brother of the gaslighting king, so he's gonna be emotional. It's just a fucked situation.

Walter actually saved Jesse's life, because Krazy 8 bailed out his cousin he snitched on, and he could have ratted out Jesse at any time. They had the word out on the street that Jesse was a snitch he was definitely going to get himself killed. Also we don't have to pretend like Jesse didn't want to cook meth, he wanted to return to the game several times when Walt didn't. Just let him take responsibility for his actions, Walt does even with his big ego acknowledges if he fucks up at least in the first 3 seasons. Jesse's just like whoops I blew the battery, it's ur fault for not treating me like an infant and telling me exactly where to put them

They only thought Jesse was a snitch when he immediately had a new partner. Ergo, Walter forcing him to cook put his life in immediate danger.

Wouldn't be possible, Jesse literally just came from working with Walt for the first time and nobody saw them, and Krazy 8 said "Emilio thinks you dimed on him", as in he already had the thought when he got bailed out, Emilio thinks he snitched because he wasn't in the house when it got raided

I personally think the season 4 finale should have been the series finale.

While Ozymandias is great, too much of the fifth season felt aimless to me. If the show fully committed to Walt being the villain in the last season, I think I would have enjoyed it more. But as someone earlier mentioned in this topic, there was a goal to keep making things grander and I don't think it worked with the neo-Nazis.

So Skyler cheats on walt with her old boss, forces him to invest in a car wash, then gives HIS money to the person she cheated on walt with and doesn't even make sure it goes to the right cause, and then nearly gets blackmailed into giving him more money.

If the point of this show is to make me hate every character besides Saul and Walt it is working lol

It was the only thing she could do to hurt Walt / reassert some control when her drug dealer husband forced himself back into her home

But yes the show is intentionally structured to place your sympathies with Walt as he descends

This. And it's been a while, but didn't she give the money to Ted because she was worried the IRS might start looking into the White's finances next?

I liked it. It shows how low and despicable Walt gets by working with neo-Nazis. I also liked the Walt/Jesse/Mike partnership. I don't think one could go any grander than Gus.

I wonder why they might look into the White's finances, i mean gee just who happened to be his accountant?

Revolving circle of accountability lol. If you screwed up in the beginning, and then someone else takes an action, you don't get to lay the blame on the person who took the action, it is still your fault

I mean, she wouldn't have had to do any of that if Walt just swallowed his pride and not let his ego control him and take the Schwartz' money from the start and not become a methamphetamine manufacturer. They wouldn't need to hide any money.

Missed this. Yeah, we had to wait until Better Call Saul for that. Even my white bread American self who can't speak any Spanish enjoyed the moments with "real" Spanish especially when Lalo shows up. The Spanish in BB doesn't bother me too much, but it's nice to hear it more authentic.

This is the case in literally 8 out of 10 shows lol so don't see why it'd even be an issue.

Sometimes you get mexican actors (like Tony Dalton in BCS) for big roles but most of the times the L.A actors who have mexican background just don't speak spanish

Yeah, I imagine that's rough to native spanish speakers. Just affects the realism of the show. Just as it would be strange if you had a native spanish speaker with an accent (for example, Sophia Vergara) cast as someone who grew up in America. It would be hard to swallow.

Honestly all your points can be applied throughout the series. Hell most of that describes season 4 perfectly.

But yeah I was lucky enough to actually watch the first and second seasons as they aired, and its probably why I think 1 and 2 are my favorite seasons.

Not sure about what you mean with Sophia Vergara? She does have an accent. She just intentionally makes it thicker for her role in MF. But how is it hard to swallow?
