I dont know. This goes for bringing back dead actors too. Like, Leia in Rise of Skywalker didnt bother me because it was footage that Carrie Fisher already filmed and they were able to work around it. But Tarkin in Rogue One weirds me out a bit. And yet, I was never bothered by him in Clone Wars / Bad Batch / Rebels. So I dont even know lmao.

Seems shitty. Voice acting is already a job that doesn't value talent as much as it should. So when someone that's playing a role dies, instead of auditioning alternate talent that could fill that role we should instead seek out AI that can replicate it instead? That's just something that will diminish the artform even further over time.

I think its okay so long as it's for existing characters who were voiced by the VA, the VA consented to it, and the estate gets paid rates comparable to the VA doing it themselves, so that it's never cheaper to just use AI.

So James Earl Jones has given permission to use a computer to generate his voice in future Darth Vader appearances. As long as the compensation is reasonable I'm fine with that. But like if Disney suddenly used AI!Jones to voice a brand new character, that would be not cool.

The end result is going to be either actor salaries falling through the floor, or the quiet recognition that a lot of new talent will never get their big shot because the studio wants to use a famous dead person's voice instead for a fraction of the cost. Either way, it's not good.

I feel like there's loads of people out there that can do a bang-on imitation of popular voices so there wouldnt be a need for AI.

Or if they're just lazy, use the AI i guess.
