You guys having any air quality alerts? There's been some nasty wildfires in Canada that caused smoke to drift down to the States. We got a cloudy day yesterday that looked slightly unnatural, and that was because of the smoke. There's pics of New York where it looks all orange and smoggy.

So NitroRad recently reviewed the SNES game, Plok, and he pointed out how awesome its boss music is. It starts out sounding like a boss fight in a haunted house for the first 30 seconds, but after that, it becomes an intense synth track that wouldn't sound out of place in Hotline Miami. Also love how that "laugh" is an instrument that's heavily edited to sound like one, which must have taken some serious work.

The theater just a couple miles down from me just permanently closed down. That fucking sucks. I saw so many great movies there! Fast 9, Top Gun: Maverick, Joker, Violent Night, John Wick 4, the Mario Bros. movie... just the ones off the top of my head. I wanted to go there to see Fast X and Across the Spider-verse as well.

I wish modern consoles had a feature where it scans every installed game for available updates. I think the Switch does, but it doesn't have anywhere you can see what got updated.

I just saw a deer run by the front of our house. Keep in mind, we live in apartments with a parking lot out front, and there's a busy road and shopping center across from us, so you'd think they would know to stay away from open areas like this. Second time I've seen one, with the first being during a morning walk in the park nearby.

Our blinds were halfway lowered, so I didn't see if it had antlers, but it had a more slender build, so it was probably a doe.

This video about exploring dead MMO socialization games is fascinating, and the video author's calm speaking voice and deadpan humor adds to it. Really makes you wonder what they were like back in their heyday. Also makes you wonder how many other games of their ilk will suffer a similar fate in 20 years.

The Cult of the Lamb update is excellent. You can build a kitchen and let your followers cook for themselves while you're away, you can build a morgue so your followers can store away the bodies of anyone who passes away while you're gone, and there's a special type of dungeon run where time freezes in the outside world so you can take your time, but at the cost of the dungeon runs not giving you any resources to take back besides a new currency type. You can get the ability to pay money to get a new weapon type on dungeon runs, which is great since daggers and hammers suck because of their respective short reach and slow speed. And you can now exhume the bodies of buried followers to do something to destroy their bodies and free up space.

Also, the ritual that gets you a lot of money is useful again. Previously, maxing out all your faith upgrades caused followers to generate money instead of faith, but there's now an indefinite new currency you can get with faith, so no more money printing. Not only that, but the guy who runs the city of gold shows up on dungeon runs a few times and sucker-punches you to steal 2/3 of your gold, effectively destroying your old stockpile. Even when you get to beat him up on the third encounter and take some back, you're still at a big loss.

There's going to be a Switch port for the second Luigi's Mansion game and a new game starring Princess Peach. Hopefully her game doesn't revolve around her fluctuating moods again. That was kinda stupid.

So, with Nintendo remaking Link to the Past and Mario RPG, as well as remastering Luigi's Mansion 2 and Pikmin 1+2, I wonder what other older games they'll revive. The original Luigi's Mansion had a 3DS remaster, Mario Sunshine would benefit from a sequel or actual remaster (3D All-stars port was kinda lazy), and the second Paper Mario is still stuck on GC, despite being a fan-favorite.

F-Zero has been dormant for over 20 years, not counting Captain Falcon being a SSB regular, but there's other zero-G racing games like Redout 2.

With Pizza Tower being a success and Antonblast looking fantastic, they should definitely make a new Wario Land game, or at least rerelease WL4 and/or Shake It.

The RE2 remake is pretty good, but there's a couple major annoyances. First, there's no separate, unlimited inventory for key items, and yours is pretty small even with upgrades. It might be true to the original, but that's probably because programming a second inventory for specific items was probably too difficult, and quality of life features weren't as big a concern back then.

Second, there's the issue of not knowing where the hell to go. I've looked over my map, my key items, the marked special containers, I've run all around the police station, and I still don't know what to do. None of my key items can be examined to get another item out, and there's no places I can see that I can put the items into.

Oh, there's the issue. The door I had to go through was chained up and needed the bolt cutters to get through, but chained doors are marked in red like every other locked door that doesn't require a special item. It's only when you hover over them on the map that it says it's chained.

Yeah, but we're basically on life support right now. I'm the only one trying to keep these alive. We'd probably still be chugging along if one of our members hadn't passed away in 2020. SSBBSB/DogFather/John was very lively when he was with us. But I'd rather have him living it up in the afterlife than down here dealing with his constant health issues.

Yeah, it's mostly just a little friend social topic to keep up with one another and post pics from time to time.

Fucking hell, scenario B in the RE2 remake is a pain. There's more enemies and the save point and item storage box from the police station lobby are gone. And avoiding the trigger point for Mr. X just delays the inevitable, since you'll start hearing his stomping at some point. Oh, and I just looove how the lickers (who are blind, have great hearing, and are very fast) don't react at all to X's big, stomping footsteps, but will go after a far lighter human if they dare go above walking speed. Seriously, they should have made it so X's footsteps cover the sound of yours, or have lickers attack him because he's got loud fucking footsteps.

I hate when games do that; where you've got one enemy that has a nasty reaction to you doing a certain action, but there's another enemy alongside it who you can't get past without doing that action.

it would be more realistic (even for a fictional zombie world) if the enemies were also enemies with each other. lickers going after X or even each other if they make too much noise, that could add another layer of strategy where you use them against each other.

Something I like about the RE2 and 3 remakes is the smaller map size, which means they can cram more atmosphere and detail in. Bigger is not always better. I also love small towns, so even with Raccoon City being a torn-up zombie-infested hellscape, I can still appreciate what it might be if it weren't.

The RE3 remake definitely wasn't as good as the 2 remake. 3 is a lot more linear and dramatic, while 2 is more quiet, atmospheric, and open-ended. I didn't like how they removed the ability to use an emergency item to quickly escape grabs. I guess they wanted you to use the dodge move to avoid getting grabbed, but its effectiveness can be unclear and get you grabbed anyway. I definitely suffered some cheap deaths from that.

I also decided to look up the weapon upgrades I missed. Two of them are gotten by shooting Nemesis as he's chasing you until he flinches and drops a crate. That goes against what the RE games have taught me. If there's some big nasty thing chasing you, it's typically invincible, so shooting it just wastes ammo and risks your life.

Thankfully, the most tantalizing bonus goodies aren't locked behind mastering the hardest difficulties this time. Instead, there's these achievements you can do to earn points to spend in a shop, and some are just stuff like "kill ___ enemies with [weapon type]". For some reason, two purchaseable items are the bolt cutters and lockpick, which you can already get early in the story anyway, so they're definitely a waste of points.
