Current Events > A "Worthwhile" upgrade for the Galaxy S9?

My S9 seems to be at the end of it's tether.

I'm looking to upgrade, contract, but I'm not sure what the best option is. If the S9 was still in perfect working condition and still getting security updates, I'd probably continue to use it as it honestly meets all of my needs, think it's a fantastic device.

I have no desire to move to Apple / iPhone as everything I need / use is on Android. Right now, I'm looking at the Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy A54, Pixel 7 and the Galaxy S22. I was gravitating towards the Pixel 7 but having never used a Pixel before, I'm unsure of durability, bugs, performance degradation over time etc.

I'm tempted to lean back into what I already know with Samsung, not out of brand loyalty per se, more so familiarity?

Any recommendations or insights to the devices mentioned would be sweet.

I upgraded from my S9 to S22 Ultra in July and it was worth the upgrade. Comes with a nice stylus and it was helpful when wearing gloves in cold weather so I could still use the phone. I think the S23 just came out but if you have a free upgrade available I'm not sure if the S23 would be eligible yet. I would go for the S22 Ultra.

I have generally been happier with Pixel over Galaxy, but I have to preface it with my having used Pixel pretty much since it has been a thing (though not every version) where I barely used Galaxy (one phone + vicariously through people I know). Overall I find Pixel is reliable as a phone brand, but inconsistent as to whether or not the phone is actually better than Galaxy in terms of specs/performance. It seems to mostly flip-flop around, so you should look at whether or not the Pixel is ahead this generation or if it's Galaxy (if it's something that really matters, of course). I prefer Pixel's UI and layout, but that's more of a personal thing. Otherwise I haven't experienced any major bugs/glitches on Pixel, which isn't true for Galaxy.

Probably something like an S22 or S23 given the size of your S9. You'll get software support for 4-5 years with those devices so they'll last you a while.

was able to upgrade to the s22 for free though

honestly it's the same thing. it's faster and im sure it can do more stuff with a longer battery, but it's too big for my right thumb to reach the top left corner for pressing X buttons and the autocorrect is pissing me off too.

otherwise it's fine but i just dont care enough to really find out what else it can do

I recently upgraded from a Galaxy Note 9 to an S23 Ultra and I'm in love with it. Definitely worthwhile. The trade-in deal I got it from might be gone by now, otherwise it's expensive as hell.

Im a Pixel/iPhone user, but if you have no problems with your S9, maybe stick with Sammy and get an S23.
