At least in S3, they may have improved it in the next season ater they got some backlash. She's ostensibly non-binary, but she goes by feminine pronouns and this was only brought up once in one scene. She wears a hijab because it "feels right" but is very much not Muslim. She spends the entire season dating a boy except for one scene where she drunkenly kisses a girl; no big issue or plotline is made about her cheating on her boyfriend, so it seems like they threw that in there just so they could say she's bisexual. It very, very much seemed like they wanted to score points for being progressive without doing the work to make those character traits a natural part of the story.
