If you like old-school Tecmo Bowl there's an awesome game called Retro Bowl which is free for the base game but for a dollar you can unlock certain features

I've been playing it on my phone but I think it's also available on Switch and in your browser. The game does feature mtx in the form of being able to purchase "Coaching Credits" which can be used to increase salary cap, pick up free agents, hire coaching staff, etc but I've been playing for months and while the starting salary cap is limiting I've never felt compelled to spend money on coaching credits. You can usually earn enough to extend your cap after a few successful seasons

Honestly part of the fun for me is working with a restrictive salary. When it comes time to resign star players and I have to decide whether it's worth putting a quarter to a third of my funds into one player or letting them walk and rolling the dice in the draft or picking up a free agent, that for me is part of the appeal
