Google invented webp files in 2010. Late last year, Google Chat added custom emojis. Last week, I tried to upload a webp file as a custom emoji and found that it's not a supported file type. Only .jpg, .png, and .gif files are supported, a.k.a. real file types. If Google doesn't even care about their own crappy file type, why should I?
