its like a lot of guys have an actual hunger to see people get harmed who they think step out of line when it comes to what they perceive as appropriate behavior

Maybe, but I think the aggressor went too far when he decided to assault a fast food employee. The Taco Bell worker acted in reasonable self-defense, especially since he left it after the drop and didn't engage further with the other man.

slamming someone down on a hard surface like that is way too dangerous imo, way to easy to damage the spine and kill or paralyze them

i think you misunderstood what I was trying to say or maybe I worded things poorly

maybe the guy defending himself doesnt deserve any charge but I do think slamming someone down on a hard surface like that is way too dangerous and not ok, there is more than one way to defend yourself

That slam ended the fight before it could begin. If he had retaliated with a punch of his own, it would have been equally dangerous and allowed the aggressor a chance to strike back or risk anybody else getting involved by trying to break it up or intervene.

Also, moments like this tend to happen quickly and without much chance to think about what you're doing. I guarantee you this guy acted on reflex -- nobody goes for a move like that unless they've taken some sort of self defense class or high school wrestling or something like that. Like most real-world fights, it wasn't a premeditated move, it just happened. You can even see his reaction immediately after where he realized what he did and was a little frightened about it.

But since you brought it up I'd love to hear what "other ways" he could have used to defend himself in the heat of the moment like that when his lizard brain was switched on.

Now imagine if this is what Chris Rock did to Will Smith...

sure its possible, but one of those things is way more likely to cause a serious injury
