Looking for a 27 1440p 144hz monitor and seeing some good deals on curved ones with good reviews

But theyre like $175 compared to $250-300 for a flat panel so its making me think theyre cheap due to having issues

Depends if the curved monitor is a cheap VA (which most are).
Cheap VAs have massive issues -- Slow response times on dark areas (and text will look like it's smearing, when you have it scrolling), and most text looks like crap on cheap VAs.
Cheap VA monitors have terrible viewing angles, and the colors shift when you look at an angle, it's actually why they use VA panels in curved monitors, because you don't notice it as much as it can be sold as "immersive".

VA's are great for TVs (which is where they're normally used -- high contrast ratios and deeper blacks than other LCD tech, like IPS), because movies won't have text issues, since you rarely read text in movies and if you do and it's blurry it won't matter too much. But games? Where all the menus and controls are text? It will be bad. Also VAs work better from afar, which is how you'll usually watch TV.

Not all curved use VAs (See below)

But most of those $300-$500 do, some of the technology they add to the panels does alleviate some of the issues, somewhat -- but they all suffer from the above. You have a choice at the $400ish price point, a larger flat IPS or a curved VA (that will have some issues, outlined above)

My advice is try and see one in the wild, even in a store or something see if you like it, because it's very difficult from an IPS LCD, if you do you might like the effect.

For myself, the text issue was too much since I also use my PC for other things than gaming, and text being "blurry" was too much of a set-back for me.
