Why would where I come from make me trust myself less?

As one of those escapees from those disgustingly two faced shitheels, allow me to say good, and welcome fellow escapees.

It could also just be more Christians are just being irreligious. Instead of reading the bible everyday or going to church every sunday, most of them are just Christians by name only because they believe that God/Jesus exists. Because in reality, while religion was necessary in our evolution as humans, we kind of outgrew it. Religion gave us an answer to the unknown like why does it rain when we already have practical answers thanks to Science.

Considering the one time I went to a church since the pandemic started (which wasn't even for anything churchy-related; it was the venue for a Halifax Jazz Festival performance) ended up with me getting covid for the first and so far only time, I'm not surprised really.

If people actually followed the supposed teachings of Christ, this would be bad. They don't, though. It's mostly a byword for looking down on everyone, telling everyone else what they can and can't do, and white nationalism.

There's no reason for me to believe your sky daddy is real. Especially since other religions exists, so even if I was to entertain a human created religious god is real, why would I entertain yours being real?

I love the people ITT who imply that the Abrahamic religions are the only reason homophobia and transphobia exist and those bigotries will just magically disappear if Christianity and Islam didn't exist.

As a transwoman who considers herself a Christian, I feel a lot of "Christians" falsely use religion as a tool to thrust their own hatred onto everyone else. Jesus taught love towards everyone and he would look upon them in shame.

In other words, the less these "Christians" are able to dictate and ruin the lives of innocents, the better the world will be.

I blame the church's unwillingness to adapt and evolve to modern paradigms.

Which people/posts are those? I haven't seen any blanket statements like that...

It's synonymous with hate, con artists, and prosperity gospel. Current church leadership does nothing about it. At the moment, it is a force of harm rather than good.

"There are LGBTQ people that vote Republican despite the GOP openly plotting their complete extermination. " Was this what you were referring to? Regarding moderate Christians - I don't think anyone was saying there are NO moderate Christians calling out bigot, just that the majority don't appear to be doing so.

2) By saying there are "plenty of LGBT affirming denominations", are you claiming they are the majority of Christians? Because if the majority of a group advocates for discrimination then the group description seems appropriate
3) The quote also doesn't have the word "traitors" - your word that's much more loaded than "voting against themselves"

Again - where in that quote did the poster say LGBT lives wouldn't face any harassment? If a person is stabbed in the neck and right foot, attending to the neck wound doesn't mean the foot wound goes away, and it still appropriate to say the person's health is "better" But most importantly.. why did you leave out his other post? Every single aspect of my life would be completely and utterly destroyed if Christians continue to force their values on me in America. "But you would be executed in some Sharia nation!" And that's why Islam is bad for LGBTQ people in those countries and needs to stop hurting innocents, but I don't live there, so my personal issue is with the primary religion of my home country.

I think the declines are steeper in the US than in other western countries because the US was starting from a higher point

I feel like there were a lot of habitual church goers. People who weren't particularly devout or involved but went to church out of habit or community and then COVID just kinda broke the habit. Things opened up but after a year of not going to church they just didn't have the desire to return.

It's the fact that COVID is still a problem for me. I still believe but I don't want to send people to their deaths trying to worship
