This presupposes that the "age gap" debate is rooted in logic and reason.

but it shouldn't be specific to gender. women can take advantage of men, too.

I've taken this subject to other websights. Most of them time they just flame me for trying to have a discussion about this so I'd say majority of people are against age gap dating and don't care if they're infantizing literal adults.

I don't think people who say that a large age gap is bad, base it on the younger person being a woman. It's usually about power in some sense such as money and influence. regardless of sex

I certainly wouldn't call 18 an "adult" with any real meaning. And I say this as a 32 year old.

To me, 18 is still a child even if it's legally adulthood.

I went back to college in my late 20s and I was broke, but partner who was the same age worked full time. Age does not makes someone automatically financially autonomous and vice versa. That said I think we can agree that being 40 and chasing 18 years old is weird without freaking out over two people in their 20s dating

Why did you think I was specifically talking about 18 year olds? Now that's a sus, fam.

It's sexist but not in the way you think. From what I can tell the only people who have a problem with the debate are straight dudes upset at the idea that other people would call them weird for going out with a barely legal girl in her late teens when they themselves are in their late 20's to early 30's.

There's always someone in the comments with a wild false equivalency.

Like yeah, I wouldn't say the same thing about Harry Styles because he's 28. What we're talking about is the kind of guy in his mid 30s going to spring break talking to college girls and being like "Can I buy you a drink?" or "Wanna come over to my place?" and ignoring literally everybody else. Dude isn't looking for love, he's trawling for college age wizard sleeve.

Tbh I find it equally gross and inappropriate when people like Madonna and Cher date people young enough to be their grandchildren

So, is it sexist for TC to always assume anyone talking about it is only referring to women? Regardless of how many times people say it applies to everyone.

People seem to refuse to understand tge conversation focuses more on older men and younger women because that's what we're seeing 80% (very rough guestimation) of the time. It would be weird to hyper focus on the 20% going on rather than the 80%. That would be real bias. Many talk about the 20% once the conversation reaches nuanced territory

Yeah I heard about some accusations and looked it up. The moment those words came out of her mouth I stopped taking it seriously.

Often on the internet a valid observation or social criticism comes out and people on the internet manage to stretch it to all sorts of ridiculous opinions and situations because they don't understand the original point to begin with.

Happens to basically everything eventually.

Doesn't mean the original point is invalid though. Older guys going for teenagers are weird. It would be weird for women to do it too but I don't know as many examples personally.

I think I've said this before, but I'd be curious to see the percentage of aggressive age-gap decriers who are under the age of 25. By their own logic, their brains aren't fully developed enough to have an educated opinion on the matter.

The age gap debacle is pretty recent and I have no idea where, when or why it started.

But frankly if the woman is 18+ it's none of anyone's busineses to put it bluntly. On top ofnbeing very sexist as they're treating woman like children weather they realize it or not.

The dating competition became too harsh for women over 30 and they created a social uproar under the guise of combating some kind of predation. That's where it began and why it began. It's off the rails completely now. Novel objection is softly lobbed at old women who date teenagers and "men" who just turned 20 in order to give the appearance of being objective, but the real meat and potatoes is always against men 30+ who date any woman under 30, period. And yes, this includes women who are 27-29 as well.

I don't actually think the drinking age should be 25, but by their logic it should be due to brain development as well as the age to create an onlyfans, but apparently sex work is "empowering" now even though there's tons of studies showing it creates a lot of mental trauma
