It's made a world of difference to the playability in several fan-made Lemmings clones for sure. One interesting (and nice IMO) side effect of this is that it's turned the general direction of content away from execution-based challenges towards more pure puzzles, which Lemmings works really well for.

I literally wasted all my rewinds on a skirmish yesterday because it was on a map with fog of war.

Relying only on savestates for potential do-overs is annoying since you have to save obsessively for it to be of any help

Stakes.

When you know it doesn't matter if a unit dies because you can just send the next unit in and still have that unit back, you have no reason to try.

Regardless of whether you reload your save, the idea of having to restart an hour long map because you lost a unit at the ass end of it is an entirely different experience.

I don't use rewind in games, and if people want to use it more power to them. But people who use rewind every 10 seconds while playing a game, and then go on to say "the game sucks" are mega idiots.

The classic mode strategy of keeping units tightly together and advancing slowly, kiting enemies one at a time is Boring.

I just wish that the game only gave you like 3 pulses.

That's enough to save yourself if you made a tactically sound move that got RNG fucked but it limited enough to discourage sloppy play or crit rigging.

You actually miss out on the option of more dialogue by playing on casual mode since characters dying can give unique quotes and potentially slightly alter the dialogue of later chapters or have mourning quotes from other characters while casual mode only gives retreating quotes. Of course, most people won't let their characters die to ever see those quotes but technically Classic with rewind gives the most dialogue option if you want to check out that stuff and then reload.

I never beat the game as a kid because I got lost somehow. I made it to the very end. Like maybe 1-3 boss fights left. Then I must have missed some text because I had no idea where to go next. I remember searching everywhere and having to keep swapping discs from traveling across areas and eventually gave up. I definitely want to beat it this time.

Casual mode makes you more sloppy. That's not a knock on it or people who play it. But when you can just yolo units at a problem with no fear of death you aren't going to play as well. You can't do sacrificial bunts in classic mode. Even with rewind.

That's a separate issue though. As of right now FE is balanced around classic mode so playing in casual takes away a ton of the fun/challenge. Especially with how easy it is to make overpowered units.

But yeah, games like Triangle Strategy where it's balanced around no permadeath are fine.

I'm officially as far as I've ever made it. I'm near the end of disc 2, at the undersea cave. I figured out a couple of new tricks, thanks to people with a wealth of more experience than me. How Shana is the best character for battle, how to try and finish boss fights with only one person standing for maximum XP gains, and how to finally hit Gust of Wind Dance every single time.

She's the fastest character with the highest magic stat. Buy magic items and use her to throw them. She'll do more damage than anyone else if you manage to boost over 200%.

Interesting. I didn't know that.

I don't really use a lot of attack items or at least not on bosses.

I either use them as soon as I get it on minor enemies or just discard it because of how limited the number of items you can carry is.

Just started chapter 4 of Legend of Dragoon. I had a suspicion about Rose's history for some time, and that Shana was the moon child. However, I wasn't expecting Zeig to still be alive, nor that he was Dart's father. I didn't have much faith in the "regeneration of the world", because we all know that regeneration is a double edged sword. Something has to die so it can grow again. Grass dies and grows again. It regenerates.

I Platinumed the game earlier today. Which is something I very rarely do. It was super easy though.

If you're not familiar with the game the only thing you may need a guide for is the locations of the Stardust. And you only need to get 30/50 for the trophy.
