I'm so depressed man. But imagine life with an army of 18 year old model girlfriends. Private planes. First class meals. Paying for family's medical problems.

Many people who win large jackpots in the lottery end up miserable. Isolated from their friends and family, lacking anything truly fulfilling in their life and - surprisingly often - broke.

I would be afraid of those that want your money after winning so much. Like kidnappers sending you pieces of your loved ones until you pay the ransoms, and other unscrupulous individuals.

Also look how many private planes/flights crash killing rich people.

I know someone that has known several people that have that have won big lotteries. (Enough that should never have to work again.) He said every one of them ended up wasting it all.

I recently read about one of the people that won a billion dollar jackpot. From the sounds of it, they will be broke in a few years. They took home like 500 million but have already blown through like 200 million because they think they can live like Jeff Bezos now.

Personally, while it wouldnt make me truly happy, it would make my life (and tons of others) better to win the lotto. I am definitely the person you want to win if you dont win yourself.

That wealth is predicated on sustainable income.

Many lottery jackpot winners literally end up bankrupt.

It's probably to do with the fact that the people who tend to play lotteries already have no money sense.

For me, even if I win 3 million I'd be set for life.

You know lotteries have a choice right?

Usually taking the lump sum is seen as the smarter option due to total money value. Overall it's more money.

But asking for money in monthly or yearly payments is smarter because you can get used to it.

No. The smart option is to take the lump sum and begin investing it.

almost all wealth is inherited btw. you're not arguing against people getting lots of money for doing nothing, you're arguing against financial ignorance. stop repeating bylines that were bought and paid for by people who don't want you to know what you're missing.

They don't inherit "money" they inherit assets that print money. You cannot become rich just by being financially savvy.

@Ether_Strike almost 90 something percent of millionaires are first generation. The 2000s and the last 5 years creates more millionaires than any other time in history.

No you never said this but we are talking about the lottery here which is liquid money and not even remotely close to the same thing as generational inherited wealth. So your argument makes no sense.

You cannot become persistently wealthy / able to pass that wealth on through inheritance by winning the lottery. It gives you a head start but you need to protect that wealth or you will lose it all.

hey did you know that you can buy assets, and also sell them for liquidity? the difference between some lottery winners blowing their money and wealthy inheritors not blowing their money isn't the assets their net worth is in, it's financial education. you're trying to tell me that if we give out lottery winnings in stocks and bonds it won't change spending habits? no one is buying your argument because it's total nonsense, and you're bringing this all up to try and gish gallop the original premise that money doesn't make you happier, healthier, and wiser, which is demonstrably does for people.

besides the second part of your post admitting the first part is untrue, i would say winning seven, eight, or even nine figures is more than a head start. lmao

My responses have all been just 1 or 2 sentences. You want to know what gish gallop is?

  1. hey did you know that you can buy assets, and also sell them for liquidity?
  2. the difference between some lottery winners blowing their money and wealthy inheritors not blowing their money isn't the assets their net worth is in, it's financial education.
  3. you're trying to tell me that if we give out lottery winnings in stocks and bonds it won't change spending habits?
  4. no one is buying your argument because it's total nonsense,
  5. and you're bringing this all up to try and gish gallop
  6. the original premise that money doesn't make you happier, healthier, and wiser, which is demonstrably does for people.
  7. "you cannot do this thing..... also it gives you a head start on doing this thing"
  8. besides the second part of your post admitting the first part is untrue,
  9. i would say winning seven, eight, or even nine figures is more than a head start. lmao
Count em. 9 different weak as hell arguments.

As an aside though:

Ether_Strike posted...

Yes. That's exactly what I'm saying because stocks and bonds aren't "investments" in the sense that wealthy people have generational wealth capital producing investments. If I own a bunch of apartment complexes, I make tons of money being a landlord. I wouldn't make anywhere near as much if I just owned stocks in a real estate company.

just because they do that, doesnt mean everyone would. You can easily invest in dividend producing assets ie stocks/ETFs and be set for life just using the passive income generated from the bulk of funds invested. People get confused with what happened is my theory. Because you won millions or whatever, it doesnt mean you are the same type of millionaire that generates their income through some type of business/property ownership - where their income is solidified on that basis.

If I won a billion, Id be more than happy to have a couple of 5,000sq ft. houses, one here in St. Louis, to be near family, and a beach house somewhere warm, Florida or California, and a few cars, nothing too crazy. Id spend a lot of money on my friends and family, and do lots of traveling.
