You have to give it to Marco Rubio for trying to get this done

What makes DST so damn special over regular time?

Really, the whole planet should just go to UTC and stay there.

Hiw many times have they tried this? Was last year the first real attempt? I don't know why but this feels like it has been dragged on forever.

If it didn't pass before it won't pass now.

Pelosi's a coward for shelving it last time tho.

Really, the whole planet should just go to UTC and stay there.

Imagine if everyone did everything from 7pm to 7am or so and it was dark almost all the time during everyday life. Of course there would still be the same number of hours of sunlight in each day but society has positioned itself to function during the dark. Well permanent DST would shift the time so it is light out when people are outside. Standard time does this fine in the winter but absolutely fails when the weather starts to get warmer.

"What's working hours in Tokyo?" isn't a hell of a lot different from "what's the time in Tokyo?" other than not having to mess with summer time or DST or Arizona or whatever.

What?

People are naturally going to live their lives from 8am-8pm and sleep from 8pm-8am approximately. Every society in the world is like that. If we were a society of vampires there would probably be a bill seeking more darkness during standard business hours rather than more light

What?
In a universal UTC world, you may go to work at 05:00 and go home at 13:00, or go to work at 15:00 and go home at 23:00, depending on when the sun is out. What's not to understand about that?

I think moving to UTC would necessitate a cultural shift to 24hr time.

Oh. But that would never happen because humans are going to pretty much wake up and go to bed with the sun and the actual moment when that happens changes all over the world. Like I said a society of vampires would be seeking adding more darkness to the standard day, not making UTC the universal time. A society of computers might want to make UTC the universal time standard for daily life.

Standard time is way better. I don't want kids having to go to the school when it still dark out. I know I didn't that with my currant job and as an adult I know it is horrible. For a kid I know it is much worse.

so... do that.

Hmm I guess you have a point. There's nothing inherently wrong with doing business at 3am (the number, not necessarily when it's pitch black outside).

Still though this is hard enough to pass so good luck ever getting worldwide UTC to pass

That's a "school starts way too early" problem, not a DST problem

Hell, when I was in grade school I waited for the bus in the dark in winter and that was on standard time. The kids in the dark waiting for the bus problem is really overblown.

No kids in my neighborhood even wait for the bus at the stop. Their parents drive them to the stop and the kids wait in the car until the bus shows up

Plus who gives a fuck what kids think about going to school in the dark. They're going to school. Their day is already ruined

9-10 AM sunrises sound weird and depressing as fuck. I rather just have earlier nights. No reason to make DST permanent.
