I work at Pizza Hut as a manager, for context. Okay, so I'm training someone new. They are cutting pizzas and putting them away, I get a call. It's a complaint about our online services.

I told the new girl to just focus on cutting pizzas and putting them away for now, she's still learning. It's only been a week since she was hired and she's still getting the hang of everything(and has a lighter schedule thus less to learn).

Okay, I'm dealing with the phone and a customer comes in. The new girl cuts a pizza and puts it away in front of the customer, he says something and she says that someone will be right with him, and went to go do the same to more pizzas, since it was fairly busy. I finish up the call about 2 minutes later and get to the front.

I ask if the customer is picking up, he is. It's for Doordash.

When I give him the pizza he says 'she could have just given me the pizza'. I asked him to repeat it, because he kinda mumbled it. He said 'she could have given me the order instead of walking away'.

I told him she was busy, which she was, and she didn't really have ability to do so, she had to go cut more pizzas. He said she still should have done it, it would have taken 'seconds'.

I told him that, unfortunately, she was unable to. Then he says 'I had to wait here for too long. You know how little we make on deliveries?" And my first thought was, if you don't like it, get another job

I told him there is nothing I could have done, sorry, etc. He complained about how bad the service was then walked out.

I can't stand these food delivery service people. I really can't.

Doordash guys in my area are really cool.

One time he accidently dropped one of my drinks though, I felt so bad for him because he looked bummed as hell about it. I told him it was alright and don't worry about it. x.x

They do, but you can still order them via door dash. I have to use DD because I'm outside the delivery zone.

Recently, I've not been getting shitty customers. It's been nice.

It's just this specific interaction that bugged me. No specific reason why or anything, but Doordash and shit has been bugging me a ton as of recent.

Trust me, it was. I was staring at the time while I was speaking to the other customer. It was a 5 minute and 23 second phone call, he came in about 2:56 of the way through it.

This isn't the first situation where I've had food service drivers complain about us not serving them quickly.

7/10 times, they will legitimately cut in line, walk up to the counter with their phone facing me and expect me to immediately stop serving the customer I'm currently working with, and both read their phone and grab their order.

Most of the time they don't even know their person who ordered's name. So they just expect me to find the name on their phone, find the order, grab the pizza, then hand it to them while I'm serving another customer.

Ffs, I've had people rush up to the counter, phone already in hand facing the counter, WHILE IM IN THE MIDDLE OF MAKING PIZZAS, and them yell 'DOORDASH/UBER EATS' and I have to explain to them to be patient and wait a moment as I'm currently in the middle of making an order.

This isn't to say every driver is like that. 3/10 of the time I get the extremely professional ones that come in with hot bags, know the customer's name, have a pleasant conversation with, and they leave extremely quickly. They're usually patient, and know exactly what they're doing.

Edit: sometimes I've had drivers come like 10 minutes before the order is even cooking and expect me to materialize the pizza out of mid air. It's absurd.

Sadly Pizza Hut refuses to allow us to ban people. I've even had a customer I called the police on return to the store. And another that caused legitimate issues and tried to get me fired.

We used to have a system to blacklist phone numbers, but they removed it for us too. We had one number on there that was extremely racist to one of my co-workers. Thankfully I can just hang up the phone if I see the number or name again.

Aside from the two Dashers I've had steal my food from me, the worst experience I had with one was during the pandemic, pre-vaccine. As always I placed my order for a contactless drop off, but this shit kid just stood on my porch and kept ringing the doorbell.

Mask on, I opened the door but kept the screen door shut, and his face is fully exposed. I told him I requested contactless delivery, and he tries to argue with me that I didn't, even after I showed him on my phone. I tell him he can just leave it on the porch and walk away, and he keeps trying to argue "no, I'm going to physically hand it to you." I tell him that under no circumstances am I opening the door if he has no mask on, and that the entire conversation was being recorded via Ring doorbell, just in case he tries to claim the delivery couldn't be completed for whatever reason.

Finally got him to put the bag down and leave, and left a terrible review on the app detailing the whole thing and having his tip revoked -- and I tipped EXTRA generously during the pandemic. Fuck that kid, he didn't deserve it.

They may live far enough away that the delivery fee is worth it, not have access to transportation, be disabled or sick or exhausted from work or otherwise unable to leave the house. Lots of reasons to order delivery.

Fair enough. They waste money on it half of the time. In any case, these people are rude 7 or 8 out of 10 times. And rarely patient enough to wait an extra 2 or 3 minutes.

My city actually has an independent company that operates this way, except that they also encourage tipping. But their employees are vetted, uniformed, and have accountability. They tend to deliver for independent businesses too small to afford or justify delivery people of their own and don't want to do DoorDash or one of the other major delivery apps.
