Admittedly though, during the time it was considered the "in" thing to bash on JRPGs, like around 2008ish-2012, a lot of Japanese companies that weren't Nintendo didn't handle the transition to HD all that great. Then again you can argue that Nintendo never actually entered the HD age to begin with which... kinda worked out for them in a way so... I'm also of the opinion that the west didn't nearly make the transition to the HD age as smoothly as some people seem to think, but regardless, once people everywhere began to realize that not every game needed to be super realistic things got a bit better. --- sapling <cite>NozomisHusband posted [p:971876920] in Yoshida ta... Kingdom Hearts or Souls games I just call action RPGs. Final Fantasy Tactics, Disgaea etc I call SRPG. Stuff like Baldurs Gate or Divinity I call Computer style RPG. It was mostly during the PS3/360 era where western media and even western developers were openly antagonistic towards games from Japan. You had that moron Phil Fish openly insult Japanese games saying "they all sucked" in the face of a developer from Japan that asked him a question, the entire room laughing at his answer. You had western games media openly bashing anything from Japan, especially RPGs that came from Japan. You had developers like Bioware talking about how Japanese games were relics and didn't evolve. There was a ton of Anti-Japanese game sentiment around that time and anyone who denies is wasn't old enough to realize it or is just ignorant. Some of it still lingers to this day so yes, Yoshida's comments made perfect sense and he even recognizes that the term is much more positive nowadays.
