It bothers me that there are people who think they hate coffee because they tried some over roasted, liquid ass. I seriously don't understand how so much of that is in stores.

Honestly this. I thought I hated coffee until I actually made myself a good cup of Joe. Tho I can see how some people can be obnoxious about it

Coffee, like any other type of food/drink varies from brand to how it is prepared. It's why I get pissed off at people who say they don't like a certain flavor of chips because they had one brand and it wasn't to their liking. You may not like that brand, but each brand (Lays, Old Dutch, Ruffles) have their own flavor that you should try before tossing away the notion that you outright don't like something.

Fuck no.

The lounge where I work has two boxes of coffee pods. One box is some brand I haven't bothered to remember. The other box is McDonalds. First day I go in there I assume that surely the first box is better than the McCafe. Tastes like total shit. Burnt as fuck. Next day I look at the boxes and I decide to pick the "light roast" from the first box. Fucking burnt. Just less. So light roast is basically quite over roasted and anything higher I just assume they mix the beans with charcoal or some shit.

Anywho McCafe is completely unremarkable, but it isn't burnt. Because shitty burnt coffee is so common, any coffee that doesn't have that flavor is automatically not bad in my mind.

Yea. I imagine a lot of people buy Starbucks as their first coffee at a grocery store because of name recognition, try it, say "what the fuck", and become a tea drinker.

Way to miss the fucking point. Literally flew over your head. The point I was making was that no 2 brands taste the same. If all you've had in your life is Starbucks coffee and someone offers you Mcdonalds coffee, maybe take a sip to see how it tastes rather than turn out down outright. You may hate it, but you may enjoy it. You don't know.

Christ, I have 2 specific things I cannot stand: Beer and Salmon. But to this day I still try different ways of having them just in case. And guess what? I actually like Smoked Salmon. It's not my first option, I'll take a nice pan fried Codfish, but if I'm in a situation where Salmon is all that is available to me, then at least I know I can smoke it so I won't starve to death.

I got into coffee a few months ago after never really liking it. I just needed a decent enough latte or cappucino. Turns out I don't like instant coffee all that much but mix coffee with a lot of milk and I'm fine lol

My wife still can't stand it though. She doesn't even like tiramisu.

I completely understood your point. I'm not the type who subscribes to that train of thought. If I don't like something, it's a definitive choice for me. If it's just okay or bland, I'm willing to try it again because of the potential.

Something I don't like is intolerable in it's best state (i.e olives).

When coffee tastes burnt, it might be because the water you used was too hot. Coffee brews ideally at something sub-boiling, like tea.

My next coffee device is going to be a Chemex. I've had Black and Decker coffee brewers for the past couple years. They last about 6 months before they stop brewing properly, so having something that actually lasts will be nice.

Interestingly enough, both my B&D and moms Keurig broke at the same time. We'd set it to brew 10 ounces of coffee and we might get 3 at most. Mom just replaced hers with another Keurig, but I've grown addicted to freshly ground coffee.

The big thing is that this is all it really takes to go from a shit cup of coffee to a pretty good cup of coffee. Like, you can buy whatever beans, brew it however you want, as long as you grind right before you brew you'll get something so much better than stale preground coffee.

Some people don't like coffee or drown it in milk and sugar primarily due to the acrid taste that stale preground coffee gives. You might find your opinion on coffee changed drastically because you unknowingly just hated the taste that the staleness provides, and not the coffee flavor itself.

I think the real problem is all the coffee people who will put some insanely high quality beans into a French press and complain that coffee isn't as good, or understood as it should be. Then, said people will take a cheap tea bag, plop it in for half a minute, and call all tea disgusting and inferior to coffee after a sip.

Coffee only costs cents to make. Up here in Canada a large cup of coffee is a little over 2 dollars. It might cost them 50 cents to make. It's a combination of convenience, mass advertising and being on every street corner. Add to that "specialty" drinks that only pop up once a year, which you try and even if you hate the taste, by the time it rolls around next year you forget that you hated the taste and want to grab it again.

It's why Mcdonalds and Subway managed to get as big as they are. They don't do anything that is going to get people to flock to their stores, but they are open most of the day if not 24/7 and its affordable.

The problem with any kinda need is when their excitement over their hobby starts to over intrude into someone else's life.

I like coffee. I really appreciate a well-made cup of fresh coffee. But there are many days where I just need a cup of coffee, and I don't need to hear from my coworker that the office coffee is shit as I'm pouring myself a cup of it and how I really need to do x,y,z to really get good coffee.

You think I don't know I'm about to drink 20 oz of mediocrity? I'm extremely aware. It just isn't more important to me than just getting my caffeine right now. It just comes off as obnoxious at best, condescending at worst.

It's the same with food snobs, beer snobs, whatever. I'm aware that the Domino's, Coors Light, or whatever I'm consuming isn't great. But sometimes good enough is fine when it's meeting other cost and convenience factors.
