Board 8 > How are the Mega Man X games, from X5-X8?

I bought the entire Legacy collection series since it was on sale, and this came with it even though I'm not that interested in it.

I've only heard bad things about the later X games, even though I never played them, and I'm not sure if I even want to download them and try them out. But are there good ones in them? Are they even worth trying if they're not great?

Well yeah, because they are pretty bad

X7 is horrendous, but the other ones probably are fine enough to play a bit for free. Don't expect much

X5 is decent. X6 was so bad I couldn't finish. X7's reputation precedes it, but I've heard X8 is fine.

5 is perfectly fine

6 is what happens when a product gets a rushed deadline 6 months before it was supposed to be done. It's playable. I've gone through it a couple of times, but it's downhill.

7 was such an outright abomination that I still have never played 8.

This is what this fight actually sounds like, and it perfectly sums up the level of trainwreck this game is.

5 and 8 are fine. 6 is very rough on the edges. 7 is hot garbage

My biggest problem with X7 was it wasn't a megaman game

I got one upgrade with zero and proceeded to spam that upgrade to kill the rest of the 7 bosses.

I was like what the hell man

5 has some minor issues, like the unskippable navigation dialogue and the rng to the final stage opening up (and I think heart tanks only apply to the character who picks them up but it's been a while, although you can get armor pieces with either)
6 is really unpolished and has a lot of poor design choices (like some bits of the final levels you can't get through with certain armors or unarmored or something) that might drive you crazy the longer you try to play it.
7 I haven't played but is pretty unpopular due to the poor attempt to transition to 3d, the new character, and having to unlock X.
8 is often seen as stepping back in the right direction and more positively receive, though it still has a few doofy gimmick levels (one stage is just the boss fight, on the hover bike). I didn't finish it though.

gameplay issues get compounded a bit by story issues because X5 was intended to be the conclusion to the series and set up for the Zero games... but Capcom kept making X games in spite of all that.

X5 is definitely the first game in the X series where the problems really start, but it's still okay. Badly executed gimmick and some stages are not great and designed stupidly, but some are decent and fun.

X6, oh dear. I think they did the soundtrack first and had no time left for the actual game. I still wonder how such a banging soundtrack exists in this otherwise pile of garbage. Not a single stage I played I thought was good or fun. Very problematic camera/views, ridiculously annoying sections that seems overkill, incredibly convoluted with the nightmares/rescuing/parts...I beat 3 or 4 stages and then just couldn't take it anymore in Blaze Heatnix' stage.

X7 I have barely played, but I don't think I'd add much that wasn't already said. Just a bad 3D attempt.

Somehow I struggled playing X8, I couldn't figure out some things/controls, so I didn't get very far. However, that one seems to be much better than X6 and X7, if still probably worse than X-X4.

You mean like the metal blade??

X5 is good/great, X8 is good.

X6 is a hard game, but the OST is awesome. I suggest you that you play this game in easy mode and use the Falcon's Giga Attack a lot (especially in Blaze Heatnix's stage).

X7 is awful.

X5 okay

X6 bad

X7 the worst, but also kinda so bad you should still play it just to experience it

X8 love it
