So the series is no stranger to DLC. Cosmetics. Health items. Strong weapons. Yadda yadda.

Lost Judgment even gave us a mini-campaign in the Kaito Files which is some of the best RGG storytelling I've seen.

Anyway, it turns out in Like a Dragon Ishin that there are multiple DLC packs. If you buy the Digital Deluxe Edition, you get all of them.

Or in the case of some of them I should say you get ONE of all of them.

There are four packs of DLC that are focused around upgrades, materials, powerful buffs, etc. These DLC packs can be used once AND ONLY ONCE, even across multiple save files. Want another one of those packs? Please just kindly go into your console's store page and buy the DLC again.

The good news is that none of these things aren't accessible in the normal game. Another bit of good news is that things like the costumes or the pre-order weapons aren't counted either.

If you're curious the four consumable DLC packs are as follows:

• Ryoma Growth Support Kit (items that give you Ability Orbs)
• Sword Upgrade Materials Kit
• Gun Upgrade Materials Kit (both self-explanatory)
• Third Division Armament Enhancement Kit (a lot of really nice Trooper Cards and a couple upgrade materials for them)

All of the other DLC for Ishin is "get it once, get it forever". (Costumes, etc.)

Still this is a first for the series. Guess we made it to the big time, eh guys? Yay?

That just sounds like a cash shop with extra steps. I guess "DLC" sounds better in marketing though.

As much as I like RGG, making more job classes as dlc in LaD was really shitty.

Yeah thats kind of mobile game-esque. But not the worst thing ever. As long as the DLC is something that can be completely ignored Im good.

I got the final boss spoiled in Judgment. Is it some crazy reveal or can I still enjoy the story anyway? Id play it to get to Lost Judgment either way I suppose.

It's kind of a "main" reveal, but it's not the only reveal in the game.

That said, pretty much the main thrust of the story is "Who is (the final boss)?"

This and locking a fighting style / side mode / sub stories via DLC in Lost Judgment is pretty shitty too.

Yeah but that is revealed like 75% of the way through the story then it's "how do we get the bastard". I loved Judgment, so Itachi157 I would still recommend it. Adds a lot of backstory to Yagami and crew which helps with Lost Judgment (which is superior in most every way aside from possible story at the moment).

Im really good at completely ignoring any DLC and judging a game simply by what I got for whatever I initially paid. It can be on the main menu and it might as well be an ad on a website.

Yakuza is one my favorite series and I completely forgot they've been having DLCs until you mentioned it and I tried to think about it.

I can say it's never effected my experience with the series yet.

The substories are all dating substories, though, and honestly they're all pretty crap.

Which "side mode" are you referring to? Kaito Files? That's more of an expansion pack.

It didn't effect my experience as LaD is a 10/10 and my game of the decade. It just sucks because it's not just a booster or some cosmetics. It's job classes that could have just been in the base game.

Yeah, since Kiwami 2 had the clan creator stuff and especially the DLC jobs in Yakuza 7, I knew it was the beginning of the end for DLC stuff >_> At least the base games are still great

I feel you. I got too much on my plate to buy new games atm. Hope Im not too disappointed when I get around to it.

If I paid full price for more games Id probably be more bothered. Like, if Elden Ring had a bunch of DLC, Id of felt that. Classes locked off. Even though they don't mean much after 10 hours, it would be like "why?"

Imagine buying a single player game and then spending extra money so you don't have to play it.

Shadow of War did it too. Personally I don't see a problem with it. Sell DLC that just completes the game for you too

Oh, I thought they added some more student stories as well, not just dating stuff. Admittedly I'm only 10 hours in (and got the season pass cause hell yeah MORE JUDGMENT). I thought when I was reading the DLC packs one also includes more school clubs and such but perhaps it was just pertaining to boxing?

Okay I looked it up. Some of it's cheat stuff, and some of it's added, yet not all that important content. The ability to fight the other Mystery Boys in boxing, for example.

That said, that's the pack that has the Boxing Style, which if I'm honest is worth the price of admission alone. >.>

Yeah I got it for Christmas so I spent $0 on the game itself, so seeing $30 for the entire pack of DLC I figured would be worth it. I already heard the boxing was the best style in the game so I was definitely picking that one up, but might as well get the rest of the stuff too.

How is Ishin so far? I know almost nothing about it, what kind of side content is there?

Super fun. I'm still not even that far in it and haven't unlocked everything to play with yet.

There's a farming minigame. Fishing, mahjong, karaoke, chicken racing, noodle shop, mahjong, the usual gambling games, battle dungeons, mahjong, an arena, "batting" in that you're slicing up cannonballs.
