My PC is kinda old so it wouldn't be the cheapest or smoothest upgrade. I'd need a new GPU at a minimum. My CPU...probably serviceable but it's nearly 10 years old at this point, lel. And I'd get another SSD anyway.

On the plus side it's what I use for everything, so I imagine general stuff would be better.

I have a PS4 Pro that I could trade in for a PS5. And I have a library of games there. So that would be the cheaper, easier option. But then it's just a PS5.

If you're interested in any of the console exclusive games that are finally coming out then I would get a PS5. Being able to play PS4 games on it is nice too. Not all games work though.

At that point you'd have to replace a majority of the parts in your PC. So it would be cheaper to upgrade to the PS5.

Both because Windows 10 has made PC gaming a fucking hassle no matter how old a Steam title is or how good your hardware is -___-

The convenience of both has worked out monetarily too because of Steam sales and PS+, least that's my personal experience.

no it hasnt lol

Also, id go with whatever you use more. If money is a concern your ps5 will be the best option. Since a new CPU and GPU if you're going for something that will last you a bit will run you probably around 900-1500 bucks.

Not to mention that TC would need a new motherboard to be compatible with the new CPU. And depending on the CPU, might need a stronger heat sink/fan. Plus the RAM probably needs upgrading too.

Game experiences vary depending on graphics card brand and in some extreme circumstances, AMD or Nvidia only cards are a requirement.

no they arent. I've played games that are partnered with AMD on a nvidia card fine.

I've built two PCs for gaming and one had an AMD and one a 1080ti and both were fine with all games.

I think it's a pretty good time to build a new pc using last gen components. Also current gen gpu mid range are pretty good too.

I'd build a small form factor pc.

There aren't any games that require AMD or Nvidia only. Some games have added optimization for one brand, but the differences are minor.

You'd be replacing basically the whole PC, apart from maybe the case. So it's more PS5 vs a new PC.

But, a new PC would be good beyond just gaming - assuming you don't already have a non-gaming laptop or something for such tasks.

Factor those two things in and see how you feel. I'd say the PC will have better results in absolute terms, but that doesn't factor in that it'll also cost more.

That is not what I would call serviceable. You can build a new PC for less than $1k now, if that's in your budget.

Alright fair enough
Well all in all I still suggested both options from a cost angle but I had to state there are certain inconveniences I've found playing on Steam although maybe I put a tad too much weight on those "problems" due to my own gripes with the stuff in my library; sometimes involving visits to github.

4070ti

a prebuilt with it runs like 2300

so usually around that. The GPU itself is like 1200-1600 depending on where you look

bro what the heck. pc gaming seems more expensive now

i put together my 2080ti and 9900k build for like 2.3 grand and at the time only the titan card was better but only by like 5-10% at 4k

i remember xx70 build was supposed to be around 1.2 grand range not too long ago

That GPU series was already a big increase from the 1000 series too! GPU prices are completely out of wack.

Unless you're ready to be married toa handful of PS exclusives, then go PC. The games are cheap on sale, so you're going to save money there. And you can always upgrade your PC more, unlike your console.

yeah true

the xx70 build price based on the gtx 1070 which i used to run paired with 6700k

i think w/ a 1080ti would be only a bit extra like $1600 range and that would be close to totl at the time only beaten by titan pascal which wasnt much better at all iirc
