Remember how many birthers there were tying to get him disqualified? How many tighty righties were all Barack HUSSEIN Obama? How many were trying to tell the world he was secretly Muslim?

The right wing lost its collective mind when a black man became president, to the point where they stopped even pretending to be fiscally conservative and just went straight to populism and mask-off bigotry.

Sadly, I suspect it likely did play a big part in just shattering them entirely. Social media is likely more to blame though, as it allowed them to stew and perpetuate their madness together. Continuously.

9/11 was what I'd stay started it. Most of the people I know who eventually went off the rails with alt right rhetoric started with the Islamic terrorism scare. Ironically, most of the people who were terrified we were going to adopt Sharia law would probably welcome it now.
