IIRC, Ed punching back through wasn't in the original manga, it was something the anime invented. He talks about coming back before the Gate closes, he doesn't break it open again. Great change.

Does he not? I thought I at least remembered the pointing gesture in the manga, but it's been a while.

I believe everything is still said in the original, he just does it before the Gate closes. The anime added him actually punching back out. I think.

I think Mob Psycho 100 will ultimately wind up being the "Accessible anime entry point." That FMA:B has been for the last decade when it's all said and done.
