The average penis length has increased over the past 30 years, a new study has revealed, but experts warn it might not be the ideal reality every mans dreamed of. As it turns out, size does matter: Researchers fear the phallic inflation is due to unhealthy habits, like binging junk food or being mostly sedentary, or even pollution. Any overall change in development is concerning because our reproductive system is one of the most important pieces of human biology, Dr. Michael Eisenberg, the studys author, told Stanford Medicines blog Scope. If were seeing this fast of a change, it means that something powerful is happening to our bodies. Published in the World Journal of Mens Health, the Stanford University study analyzed data from 75 studies with over 55,000 men from 1992 to 2021, focusing on the length of an erect penis. Researchers discovered that the average penis size had grown a staggering 24% over nearly three decades.

Erect penile length is getting longer, from an average of 4.8 inches to 6 inches, over the past 29 years, Eisenberg said. While more studies are needed to confirm the findings and, if confirmed, determine the cause of the changes, this researchs conclusions are hard for experts to swallow. Eisenberg assumed hed see a decline in length but instead, he found the opposite. Past studies have claimed pollution is shrinking the peen yet this study may prove those findings false. American males penises rank only 59th in the world, and other research has linked size to a number of social and health consequences. One study found that the larger the dong, the bigger the personality, while another concluded that men with shorter members are more likely to spend big bucks on sports cars. In 2018, a study led by Dr. Austen Slade from the University of Colorado claimed that well-endowed men were less likely to face infertility issues. But the deep dives on penis size have been criticized for preying on male insecurities, specifically as it relates to infertility. We give men such a bad press all the time and the one thing that scares them is that size matters. To now say they have a smaller chance of becoming a father is not a good message, said Sheena Lewis, from Queens University Belfast, at the time of the infertility study, which found that smaller penises are linked to fertility problems. This is also a problem you cannot find a solution to what can you do about it? This is a very novel idea but the study does not tell us what a normal penis length is, she added.

Yay. A study looking at other studies says penises are getting bigger. No mentions if they combined self reported polls with the ones where dudes actually get measured with a ruler. Or that if you go around saying we are looking to measure dicks small dick dudes might pass on being measured.

Yeah, nypost and Im guessing self reported and voluntary selection as someone else noted unless you have a blind study it means nothing tbh.

Studies based on self-report were excluded from the meta-analysis:

Of the remaining 172 papers, 97 were further excluded as they either did not report penis measurements (n=63), reported measurements after major pelvic surgeries (n=12), or reported self-measurements (n=22).

Makes sense, self-report would be wildly unreliable on this subject.

That said I can imagine there's still a selection bias. The conclusion might as well be "small dick-havers have become more shy and less likely to have their dicklet measured by a scientist compared to 30yrs ago".

Size of penis is not decided by testosterone levels. I'm sure it's many other genetic factors. That said I've seen more articles claiming penis sizes are on the decline than what this article is claiming.

They did not even account correctly for different measurement techniques.

In the past studies were more commonly done Non-Bone-Pressed (measuring from the skin junction), but modern studies are typically done Bone-Pressed (pushing the ruler into the fat pad).

For example for the 90s they used the 5.1" NBP average of Wessels et al 1996, but the 6.2" BP average it reported is in line with recent studies.

They claim that they only use NBP studies, but especially in the recent studies most were done BP. So the average penis size didn't necessarily change significantly. The way we measure penises in studies did.

I kinda alluded to this in OP. When I referenced self reporting and the self selection bias. A lot of Penis size studies have had to feature a lot of self reporting because I dont think scientist are out there touching dicks are waiting for the men to get erect to measure them. That Reddit thread linked probably went into more detail.

Looking it up, this comment is right. Both studies used self-reporting but were included in the meta-analysis anyway. Real shoddy work.
