It's a winning ticket?

It's obviously up to the winner. You'd have to be insane to expect a cut.

It's the kind of thing I'd think was shitty of them if they didn't, but it isn't the end of the world.

Also I'm assuming we're talking big prizes here. I wouldn't even think badly of them at all if the prize was just a hundred bucks or so.

EDIT: This topic reminded me tho, a while back some dude bought a lotto ticket from a coworker of mine and told her he'd give her 5% if it was a winner. He won $32 on it... and kept his word and gave her $1.60.

If I give it away I don't expect shit.

If I get one I expect all the proceeds, unless I explicitly said I would share it in advance.

---
Is this reverse psychology? And if I ask, will you lie to me?

I wouldn't expect or demand something but I'd only be comfortable giving a lottery ticket to someone I'd know would share in the winnings, ideally.

If I received one, if the amount was serious enough to warrant it, I'd draft up a contract with a lawyer and dictate the gifter only gets a mutually agreed upon amount and have them sign it so they agree that the amount is final and that they cannot harass me over further..

If it was a small amount (say $1M or less), I'd pay them 10% to shut up and go away

I would never give a ticket away specifically for this reason

if I got one as a gift and won a million+ Id give a good percentage to the person who gave me the card

Basically what these guys said. I only really give lottery tickets to people close to me.

If I won millions off one someone close gave to me, I'd tell them and give them a lot of it.

If it wasn't someone close to me...well...

Too much entitlement and too much (understandable) resentment.

Kind of defeats the point of it being a gift, doesn't it?

Would it be nice for them to reciprocate if they won? Sure.

But put that up against the fact that in the much more likely event they hadn't won, their gift was a near worthless scrap of paper, and suddenly your "generosity" isn't such a grand thing.

I entered a poker competition when I was travelling abroad. Me and my roommate at the time said if wed won any money wed split it. I ended up winning the competition and kept my word and gave him half. Was about $250 each. He honestly got really upset when I have him the money cause he didnt think Id actually do it. Turns out he was struggling with money and that was the only reason he was able to get home so it was worth it.

I've always said that I will cover one full vacation and one serious life saving expense if I win

And that I expect it in return if they win

If you're going to prank someone like that, it has to be for an amount you can afford and you should anticipate actually giving them the money.

Otherwise you're just a trash ass person

It's too mean spirited of a prank to pull on someone you actually care about.

It actually works as a joke that everybody can look back fondly on if you pay up
