He was already beginning to have aphasia last year as was already known - which is a starting symptom of dementia - but he's just been officially diagnosed with it.

Is it me or A LOT more people are getting this sort of disease (dementia and Alzheimers) than a few decades ago?

It was pretty much assumed that was his diagnosis as costars and people working on his movies the last three years noticed symptoms beyond aphasia. He was forgetting what he was doing in scenes, going "blank" and unfocused, forgetting lines (aphasia does not attack the memory, just your ability to communicate), and other things I can't recall off the top of my head.

Aphasia is common with dementia, but not all aphasia comes with it. I feel for him and his family, dementia is a horrible thing to witness. I had two grandparents with it and my dad has the beginnings of aphasia (no mental decline, thankfully).

It could be, not dying/suffering from other diseases as medical care is getting better every decade.

Probably more people are testing for it. Like with CTE in football players.

Probably. We're living a lot longer nowadays, and staying relatively active into ages where we'd been shuffled off to an old-folks home a few decades ago.

there is also a HUGE uptick on certain pets (dogs and cats) getting neurological issues such as seizures.

I would not be surprised if certain chemicals in the air, water, food or even clothes or plastics are the cause

More that we are testing more, people are living longer so more likely to happen and easier to report on it to a global market I imagine.

It just appears more common that actually being more common.

Ive taken care of people with dementia for over 11 years and ppl with frontaltemporal dementia can be pretty challenging to take care of, but they usually dont seem to feel bad themselves or have any insight they are sick, its the dementia Id want if I had to get one.

Really sucks because his previously filmed DTV movies keep coming out so it gives the illusion he's "fine."

There's like 9 types of Aphasia. I guess if I look hard enough he might have Broca's Aphasia, which means he has a hard time finding vocabulary and forming sentences.
