It could be in ballpoint pen, sharpie, whiteboard marker... Never anything permanent like a tattoo though, it'll always be possible to clean off.

Edit: If you don't clean it off, it will remain there until you do (or it just fades naturally), and it does not preclude a further one from appearing too.
