Every dark souls boss is cheap until you learn how to beat them. That's the appeal of the whole franchise.

She is one of the easiest bosses. Just requires practice.

Malenia is a cheap boss by virtue of the fact that she heals when she hits you with an attack that you blocked. It would be fine if she healed based on damage done to you, but its pretty fucked for people that rely on shields.

The series has always encouraged rolling over blocking. That doesn't make her cheap by that logic.

Your logic is flawed. If the series didnt want you to block at all, they wouldnt have included shields in the first place. See: Bloodborne.

For the record, I dont use shields either.

If you block with a shield in Bloodborne you will die

Every game except Bloodborne has given you all the tools you need to do a tank build

"You're not supposed to play the game that way" is such a stupid fucking argument for a series that literally gives you the tools to create a number of builds.

Right, but blocking is always inferior to rolling because of iframes. Grab attacks, split damage attacks, guard breaks and now Malenia is why rolling is always better.

For the record, I dont use shields either.

Not to mention the new extremely powerful guard counter technique. Shield and sword is my main strategy. And they even have shield and sword as a starting technique. I dont know why it wouldn't be valid. In Sekiro parries were much more effective, in bloodborne you had no shield at all, but in the souls games and elden ring they base a lot around shields

I really don't see how someone could come to such a conclusion when there are so many different shields available in Souls/Ring that cover a variety of scenarios and builds

Rolls avoid all damage, shields don't. Rolls also allow you to counter status effect procs when timed properly. The games are designed around rolls being so overwhelming strong it's absurd.

Very impressive, but I think it did have some iframes as jumping gives your legs iframes I think, still very impressive.

No iframes on jumps, it just shifts your hitbox where part of your legs have no hitbox. You can still be hit during jumps attacks if it connects above your kneecaps

Isnt not having a hit box basically iframes for the legs. I am not trying to downplay what they did, but if you jump in the air and it makes swords magically pass through your legs without damage I think that counts as an iframe or at least some form of temporary invincibility even if only on ones legs.
