I mean, no one ends up in HR because they were super smart and talented. It's a softer skillset for sure.

I hate rat-racing program managers and, god forbid, scrum masters way more than I have any animosity towards HR.

To their credit, the amount of times they probably have to resist the urge to tell an employee to stop being an asshole, but ultimately doesn't, has to drain on a person.

Just think about the name Human "Resources"

Resources are meant to be used up, then discarded when they're no longer "useful"

why's that? I was thinking of going the PM/scrum route but I don't think I'm enough of a bullshitter to sustain it

i dont think youve spent any time figuring out what HR actually does. Like sure its not STEM stuff but its certainly not easy and probably includes one of the tougher skills which is having difficult conversations.

that said I dont like HR myself.

that's fine but it does nothing to dispute the idea that they should be treated with anything but disdain

I remember a coworker got sexually harassed by the manager. I overheard coworker tell her dont go to HR go to the cops. She didnt listen went to HR and got fired. And they told her if she wants to speak to the company again it would be through their legal department.

I have a little cousin who does HR for some big oil company in Texas, and I was talking with her over Thanksgiving and she said her work literally never stops.

That kind of sounds miserable. Like for example I get to work from home, and my workday has been over for about an hour now, and I think I may be did a total of three hours of work today

I had to file an HR complaint on the HR manager and then later got her fired.

She's a busy body asshole that will go around and complain about everyone not doing enough work. She started laying into my department when we were setting record numbers. After my complaint, she started running her mouth about the next time she heard me having an inappropriate conversation with someone she was going to get me fired. I went and filed another complaint because she was threatening retaliation. They fired her soon after.

Now the HR people are cool. Unless someone files a complaint, which happens almost never, they don't bother anyone. It's a much nicer environment.

Our HR department is pretty sound, and with so many international hires and the packages on offer, they probably have to work fairly hard to come across so competent.

Marketing on the other hand, are absolutely awful and have no understanding of how an organisation like ours works on a day to day basis.

It's especially bad when the local HR department shows signs of corrupt internal bias and NOT abiding by actual equality of policy.

Witnessed it, disgusted every time.

As someone who is working in remote pharmacy, I can safely say that our narcotics department is the most hated because of how unreachable they are. It's actually not their fault. It's the corporations' fault for not hiring more people who can assist with call-ins for prescriptions or requests to pull narcotics from an emergency kit. (It requires an access code which only the narcotics department can give.) Also, pharmacy simply isn't something that can be done digitally.

It's part of the reason I'm leaving my current job. There's just no way to be ethical about it. People are in pain and can't get their medications. I feel like a stooge working for the mob.

Correct, their sole job is to protect the company. Sometimes that works in your favor, but most of the time not.

IT's probably the most underappreciated. Mostly because you deal with people who aren't tech savvy who don't recognize the amount of maintenance required to make sure shit actually works. You only get noticed when shit goes haywire and they need someone to blame.

my accounting dept is fine. The worst department is sales by far. But the worst people are not quite the upper management (although they are bad), but the people one level below them actually trying to make changes and implement shit in the company without IT involvement. And they are high enough in the corporate hierarchy that every time they do anything its a shit show we need to justify why it shouldnt be done. Why cant you do this, it should be easy and cheap sort of people

Check out this gem from a few jobs back.
Each year there would be Halloween Costume Contest.
I forgot what you won, but I'm pretty sure it included money, dinner and probably something else.

Well, guess who just so happened to win?
These fucks were horrible.
And the costumes are so cynical.

This topic is pretty eye opening. Maybe I've just gotten lucky, but HR at both of the places I've worked long term were fairly aggressive in workplace disputes.
