Why do you only apply that logic to N/S but not E/W? If I start in North America and head east to Asia, why cant you say that at some point I passed the east threshold and started heading west?

easier to think of it by hemispheres, theres a northern and Southern Hemisphere so youll eventually be traveling south when you get to the northernmost point.

but theres no eastern and western hemispheres so theres no westernmost or easternmost points to cross.

But youll be going around the curvature of the Earth just like if you go past the north pole. Why can you use crossing the poles as a means of measurement but not something like say the hemispheres? Or just once youve passed the halfway point in the planet from where you started?

Cause there aren't E/W poles as markers, when you pass the North pole you're now heading toward the South pole.

To go West you have to go against time, if you keep going with it you just end up back at the beginning of it instead of going against it.

Because that is how the magnetic field currently works on earth. The directions we use aren't just arbitrary they are based on the magnetic poles of our planet.

@YugiNoob buy a compass and go north until you hit the north pole. If you continue to travel in the same direction, your compass will flip because you've pass the magnetic pole it was pointing at.

The same is not true for east/west. A compass is a physical object that can demonstrate this point very well, because its needle is always situated toward the magnetic north pole. There is no east/west flip on a compass. If you travel East and then continue in the same direction forever, you will always find the compass reading East.

every direction beside the exact north pole is south, there is no east or west of the north pole if you are at the north pole. although iirc the actual north pole isn't really at the 'tip' of the planet.

if you don't change your n/s motion you can go 'east' of the north pole forever.

The thing with the compass is that its only relative to the magnetic poles. You can start at one point and when you walk far enough , have travelled far enough around the curvature of the planet to say that youre heading west. This, however is relative to the way youre looking at things. Just as how north is at the top of the planet is relative, its just one of the way we see things.
