Gen Z, millennials, boomers, and the the greatest generation all catch shit for something.

Gen X grew up during the perfect period to be the most well adjusted in modern times. Boomers and TGG are too hard. Gen Z and millennials are too soft. Gen X falls somewhere in between. The Goldilocks zone.

Remember Gen X's formative years were in the 80s when the cultural zeitgeist was "not caring". They propped themselves up as the cynical and disaffected, but that kind of attitude is entirely unactionable and the housing market hadn't yet downturned so they eventually slotted right into American homeowner life.

And these days they're complaining that people younger than them care too much, and about silly things.

Gen X was the ultimate poser generation.

  1. They also started the whole naming their kids With baby names like Jayden, Brayden, Aiden, Kaden, and Hayden.

I don't think it divides that cleanly by generation.

Old boomers had young Gen X
Young boomers had old millenials
Old Gen X had young boomers
Young Gen X had old Gen Z
Old millenials are having young Gen Z

Depends on when you have a kid. Id say its safer to say that a generation accounts for the next two generations, for example.

Were the generation that was raised by people who livex their childhood largely in the 30s, 40s and 50s.

As a child, I still lived in a world where children were seen and not heard. When child abuse was still barely spoken about. When a strange man could grab you by the arm, drag you to a parent, claim something, then the parent, of course, Ill punish them immediately! And of course, corporal punishment was normal. oh, and lastlywere the first true latchkey generation.

Oh, and if you were gaygood luck. That could get you beat up or worse.

I also propped myself up as the cynical and disaffected, which is weird, because life was so easy.

There was nothing major to fight against at the time. Vietnam was long over. The Internet hadn't happened yet, so there wasn't heavy active communication about things like Iran Contra, but GenX wanted something to rebel against, which was hard for them because, as you say, they had it so easy.

The next major thing to be against the system on was Desert Storm.

It's hysterical how cyclical generational thinking is.

Maybe in America. Europe was undergoing tons of revolution in the 80s. East/West Germany, Berlin Wall, the entire eastern bloc of Europe constantly at war, the USSR, even China had Tiananmen.

Yeah, to think the 80's and early 90's didn't have things to "fight against" it a very rose colored view of what was going on in at the time.

Speaking of Karens, when I was at Walmart getting my tire fixed I was sitting next to one waiting. She appeared to be gen x. She was balling someone out on the phone over some plan she was trying to cancel and went on for like 40 minutes being embarrassingly rude before the rep hung up on her.

"What's your name? Michael? There are millions of Michaels. Michael what? What. Is. Your. Full. Name? What's your manager's name? Your boss. Who is it? Hello? Hello? Heeeellloooo?"

It was the most classic Karen conversation I've ever heard in my life. Should have recorded it.
