Still the equivalent of 3 9/11s a month but yeah let's cover out ears (but not our mouths/noses!) and pretend it's over.

What does this mean for Covid vaccines? Did they ever move out of "approved for emergency use"? If not, would the fact that it is no longer an "emergency" as of May 11, does that mean the vaccines are no longer approved at all?

Well, 2/3rds of covid deaths are unvaccinated or non boosted people. This is as good as it gets thanks to the antivaxxers.

I get that, but you can't just go get a vaccine right now that isn't approved, whether you pay or not. My question is moreso along the lines of if Covid is no longer an emergency, are the vaccines grandfathered in to normal approval vs. emergency approval (which may have already happened, idk)

Once the emergency ends, Medicare beneficiaries generally will face out-of-pocket costs for at-home testing and all treatment. However, vaccines will continue to be covered at no cost, as will testing ordered by a health care provider.
State Medicaid programs will have to continue covering Covid-19 tests ordered by a physician and vaccines at no charge. But enrollees may face out-of-pocket costs for treatments.
Those with private insurance could face charges for lab tests, even if they are ordered by a provider. Vaccinations will continue to be free for those with private insurance who go to in-network providers, but going to an out-of-network providers could incur charges.
Covid-19 vaccinations will be free for those with insurance even when the public health emergency ends because of various federal laws, including the Affordable Care Act and pandemic-era measures, the Inflation Reduction Act and a 2020 relief package.
Americans with private insurance have not been charged for monoclonal antibody treatment since they were prepaid by the federal government, though patients may be charged for the office visit or administration of the treatment. But that is not tied to the public health emergency, and the free treatments will be available until the federal supply is exhausted. The government has already run out of some of the treatments so those with private insurance may already be picking up some of the cost.
The uninsured had been able to access no-cost testing, treatments and vaccines through a different pandemic relief program. However, the federal funding ran out in the spring of 2022, making it more difficult for those without coverage to obtain free services.

Basically, vaccines will continue to be covered by Medicare / private insurance, everything else is going to start costing.

EDIT I didn't see any mention about the vaccines being somehow rendered illegitimate due to the emergency approval no longer being relevant - call me naive, but I'd hope that such a thing would be big news if it wasn't going to be resolved smoothly.

it's been over for a while. covid isn't over, but the pandemic has been over for a long time

What doesn't make sense to me about this post though is, why is it just the US?

Antivax, anti-covid, etc., in the past and in the present, are not limited to the US. There are just as many pockets in the whole world. Similarly, I would imagine there are few, if any, mask/vaccine mandates/restrictions in other countries as well.

I'm sure you could find mandates in certain spots here in the US just as I'm sure you could find let-er-rips internationally as well, so I don't want this to become a finger-pointing "what-about-X!!" when we all know we can go back and forth on that all day.

The point is, it's not just the US. This country has unique problems, but covid numbers are not one of them.

Please re-read my post. Covid numbers are not a unique problem to the US.

One covid death qualifies as a problem IMO. I don't think that's preposterous to say.

This is a mature, responsible, and acceptable response. I have no dispute with this.

With Covid treatments and tests going up in price in May, Covid is going to become a lot more expensive for the average person.

Fuck, this means no WFH.
