Like why are you even buying said collectible in the first place if you dont plan to display it properly? You rather display the box of the thing you bought?

I think it's because they're already planning for the day they don't want them anymore and hope they sell for more by doing so.

It's a different kind of collector, these kinds collect things and keep them in original condition with intent to resell in the future for a profit with focus on maximum condition value.

The other kind open, display, and intend on keeping what they have.

I never got it outside of wanting to sell it later, which is odd being a fan of something, but planning to sell it later, whatever though. I like playing with my toys personally.

I always think of this too when it comes to this stuff:

I follow the rule of 3. One to play with, one to display, and one to keep in the packaging.

Some boxes have really cool artwork on them and the box can be displayed where you can still see the figure. Resell value goes down significantly too unless its a rare figure. Collectibles dont usually hold onto their figures forever. Sometimes they sell so they can buy more. Only time its okay to take them out of the box is if theyre not able to be displayed from in the box and are really rare.

Lol at collectors playing with their toys. Never heard of that one.
Those nendroids with parts you can change out are more popular these days but there's a lot of older models that have similar interchangeable parts and even things like desks and other props to pose with or recreate scenes from the anime or game.

A lot of the "collectibles" being sold these days will never be worth anything.

A friend posted last night that apparently some of her rare funkopops total to over $800.

I had to resist the urge to mock her for buying any funkopops.

Not true at all. Value in horror figures for example usually goes up unless its something mass produced. Otherwise they usually sell for retail, a little above, or double/triple in price. Especially if you go to conventions and get them signed. Ive got items that cost $30-40 on release that are not worth $300.

What is reselling? Somehow in my years on Earth I have never grasped this concept.

Some people enjoy owning something that has value, regardless if they intend to sell it or not.
For some people just owning an expensive item feels rewarding.

I have $15,000 worth of Funko Pops. I could liquidate for $8,000 at the drop of a hat.
All are kept in box, mostly because they're easier to store and display that way. Partly because certain ones are worth $200+ and I like that.

I would only keep something in the packaging if it was an obvious misprint or defect.

Im well aware of this, kinda thought it would go without saying considering there would be no other reasoning to keep a figure sealed in box. Buying figures to flip for profit is fucking stupid, better?
