I dont mean like store employees actually contracted to work those hours. I mean like accountants or upper management staff working at like 10PM work nights or on weekends even though they are salaried. dont they have lives?

I've been going in on one of my days off all month. This next check will have two overtime days and a holiday on it for me.

Yeah, I'm upper management. It comes with the job position to get very certain things done at very certain times.

Occasionally, yeah. I typically get all my work done during 9 - 5, but not always; or when I know we're coming up for a particularly busy period and there are niggling things that still need to be cleaned up.

It's worth putting in an extra hour here and there to make Mondays and Fridays as cruisy as possible when you have a heavyish workload.

They work late because the work needs to get done. It's not because they want to be all work 24/7

I work overnights. Honestly I feel like I have way more a life than I did when I was working days, I usually get up at like 2pm or so and have the day free until 9

If they dont work those long extra hours, the tasks dont get done and then they not only have to work on their backlog but they have to work on new tasks which will also get backlogged

Its a vicious unforgiving cycle.
