The self checkouts that require you to put each item into the bagging area before moving on really blow. I like the ones at Sam's Club and Walmart that let me just scan directly in the cart.

Yep This is true. When Ive used them before many, many years ago, they were very slow. I was a cashier, so I knew the best ways to scan something. But it didnt matter how fast I (or anyone else) was. It was still a slower process because of that

It would probably have to be before that since self-checkout was invented in like 1986...

I think people just hate that the company doesnt pass on the profits from cut labor on to the consumer in terms of reduced prices

but that is capitalism for you. Companies at war with their consumers wallets

Technically this is doing someone's job in the past every time you went to a grocery store you had to go to a cashier who would scan each item.

It also seems like the more popular this gets the more they start firing or reducing hours of the checkout jobs. So yeah I bet most grocery stores love self checkout because it potentially saves them a great deal of money on labor costs.
