For more context, Atlanta is building a like 90 archer training "city" in Atlanta And people have been protesting it. The police claim that the person killed shot at police, the protesters on the ground say that is bullshit. Now after that with Tyre Nichols video people think things will really get worse.

Also the fact that up roar in Atlanta is not bigger news is odd.

There is no reason to believe any word that comes out of a cop's mouth that isn't backed up by multiple videos.

Remember when those heavily armed, and armored criminals robbed that bank(I think it was in LA, iirc), and everyone was like we need to better equip our police!. Now people cry militarization if a cop has anything more powerful than a 9mm Glock, and a Taurus Interceptor.

I don't think it was everyone. More like it was cops screeching that they were outgunned and the military being willing to sell their old gear to police departments.

Not literally everyone of course, that is a figure of speech. But I do remember people worried that armored criminals with automatic weapons would become commonplace, and that the police needed better equipment to handle the threat.

While I clear that it not EVERYONE. There were many minorities who at this point were already worried about the police and their actions. So there exist many voicing say no. BY the time of that shooter out, police were already using tanks to the break open black and brown people's homes.

So the next time armored criminals with eye and breathing protection threaten public safety(it will happen again eventually), what are cops armed with nothing more than pistols and hollow point bullets supposed to do?

The irony is that the "Cop City" training center was envisioned as a place to train cops on how to properly interact with civilians and deescalate conflict. The Atlanta mayor had the public's blessing to build it after the Floyd riots a few years back.

The people protesting it are from out of state.

The answer is to change police culture so they dont automatically assume every black man is a violent criminal, not neuter them to the point that they cannot stop a heavily armed criminal.

Even I, an advocate of the abolishment of the police, acknowledge that you will occasionally have situations that arise that must be met with force to protect people. The problem is that we have taken that threat and applied the same type of policing to it as we do to every police interaction down to traffic stops.

You say you want the police to be abolished, then you acknowledge there are situations where they are needed, just what do you think should happen in those situations?
