You're in a fight to the death with another man equal to your size. You're offered either an aluminum baseball bat or a 6-inch non-serrated knife, knowing the other weapon you don't choose goes to your opponent.

Which would you choose?

The bat is the better weapon just for the ability to create distance from your target.

Nah the knife is definitely better

Bat is clearly superior, even if it's a smaller bat you'd have at least 20 inches on them

If you go for the torso as your central target, you shouldn't miss especially at that distance.

You can just tank a hit with your arm or shoulder and then close in and slice and dice

But you pretty much are limited to 3 attacks. Horizontal swing, vertical swing, and diagonal. Keeping your distance until the perfect moment

Unless you are throwing the knife (which is hard to do) the bat takes it. You don't need any still to make a barrier around you.

Knives are far more dangerous. Bats are only lethal if you go full Negan on someone.

I think the point is that most of us havent been trained to fight with a knife so we choose the bat

You need to be right up to the person for the knife to be effective whereas the bat, you just need 1 good swing as they try to get towards you to close the gap.

Never underestimate distance. There's a reason they measure reach in boxing/mma.

I didn't read the OP and was imagining a literal bat (the creature) so I picked the knife. But a baseball bat makes way more sense, and any baseball bat is better than any knife except maybe a throwing knife (and you have practiced with throwing knives)

I have to assume anyone who chooses knife is too physically inept to swing a baseball bat properly.

Im not a tough guy fighter, so Id choose the knife. Im big and Im fast. I feel my chances are better bum rushing the dude with the bat and getting in close.

Thing about a bat is if you miss or don't crack bones with the first swing, you are liable to get slashed. And the thing about knife fights is it takes a few hits for someone to go down but losing blood drains your stamina really fast so you might as well not even have had an adrenaline rush after. Plus most people don't even know where the sweet spot on a bat is. Meanwhile a knife? Stab, slash, slice, it's all progress if it lands.

Knife. While you're taking the time to prepare a swing that could kill or break a bone you're already gonna have that knife stuck in your chest.
