Just wondering who still lives with their parents. How old are you guys? If you live on your own/moved out of your parent's home right now, how old were you when you moved out? If people barely have the money to live on their own, do you guys still look down on them for not moving out of their parent's home?

30. Moved at 24.

38 had to move back a couple years ago. Money problems. Currently building a studio on the property and gonna live there.

If you don't count summer vacations, I essentially moved out at 19 when I transferred to an out-of-state college. Now I live in my own damn house with my wife and kid.

I am starting to seriously regret it though. My life has fallen to shit.

I do look down on people for making no effort to improve their situation when they are unhappy with it or places a burden on others

Moved out at 23 I think, moved back home at 34, and moved back out a few years after that.

oh wait it occurs to me we likely mean legal guardians, not strictly biological parents.

moved out of my grandfather's house after about three months of illegally squatting there after his death, last week or so without power, until my then girlfriend made the 8 hour drive to come rescue me and keep me in HER parents' basement.

I've never been able to leave due to lack of money (and yes I've tried 3 times). My dad died in 2015, and mom tends to think she lives with me rather than I live with her (even though everything is in her name). I'm essentially her caretaker now anyway. She's only 68 but is absent minded. We'd like to move, but our property value isn't great, and prices elsewhere are quite high. As for my sister she's been living with her boyfriend since July, but all her junk is still here (she's a hoarder).

I'm 30. I moved out when I was 19. I almost had to move back in with my mom about a year and a half ago, but I managed to get back on my feet.

In my state, you're technically not the "age of majority" at 18, meaning you can't do a lot of things like open your own bank account or rent an apartment. I moved out basically as soon as I could and didn't look back.

For the record, I was completely broke in college. I moved into a super sketchy apartment that wasn't insulated at all, but the rent was dirt cheap (roughly $315 when I moved in). I slept on a blow-up bed until one of my relatives insisted on buying me a real bed and mattress. I ate turkey sandwiches (literally just bread and meat) and mashed potatoes with lima beans (hands down one of the cheapest meals I still make).

It was worth it to me, to have the freedom, but it came at a price.

I'm 34, moved out when I was 18 and started college, other than coming home for summer. The summer between junior and senior years, though, I stayed at college and did summer research.

Rent is absolutely insane around here so I would rather live at home. I don't care if people look down on me, people looked down on me when I was working and living on my own...

I've recently just met 1 guy (coworker) who actually lives alone. This is my FIRST time ever hearing someone living by themselves in their own apartment in my entire 20s atm. Anyways he got lucky and only spending $700 on rent. Yet he lives in a ghetto city lmao.

And I don't have a issue living with my parents atm. Nice house, nice neighborhood, our house is looking nicer every year with new improvements, etc.

But yea my goal is to Def move out by my 30s... hopefully haha.

31 currently, moved out aged 17. Went back for the next two summers during University break, then bought a house when i was 28.

20. No, I don't look down on people that stay home. I tell people to stay home as long as possible. Paying rent sucks. Work, save, buy your own house and be a bum there.

Moved back in to save money, and take care of my dad. But I lived on my own for about 20 years.

28. I moved out when I started college, then moved back in after my dad died in 2018 so I could help take care of my mom. Then my mom died last year, so I'm now permanently moved out.

I joined the Army basically right after high school, left home at 18 and haven't been back since.

Let's see, just turned 28 a few weeks ago, moved out at 24, but I'm planning to move back for a few months to save up and move to Florida(1st move out of state ever) before the Fall to be around my 2nd child. And later to bring my first child as well eventually cause the 1st mom is down to move from Nevada to any location I'm at so I'll have both children around me finally.

It's kinda complicated as to when I technically moved out, because strictly speaking first time I lived alone was because my Dad moved out not me, haha.

I think I was 21 or 22 (?) when he moved out to live with his missus, so I just took over paying the bills and stayed in the home we'd lived in together (though it was still in his name, I just transferred him the money each month). Then when I decided to go to Uni at 25, he sold that house and I stayed in his missus' spare room when I wasn't at uni (so about three-four months of the year), then I officially got my own place after that at 28 (although the various student flats I lived in during Uni were more my "main" home).

29, live with my wife. We moved out together when I was 20. Bought our house in 2018.

First moved out at 20 for college (didn't stay for summers) and briefly moved back for a month in my early 30s when I got out of a long term relationship

Moved out at 21 downstate, came back at 26 (kept job, worked remotely). Left again at 28 across the country for good.

I moved out in my early 20s but moved back after I had a really bad nervous breakdown (a really, really bad one, the kind where you think "maybe it's not a safe idea to live alone right now") due to how I was treated while working at Sam's Club. Now I can't afford to move back out again.

I live at home, but at my age the lines start to blur. I'm 48, I live with my mom who is 71. I take care of her and the house, she goes to work at het job of 35 years. She loves it and it gives her a great social network. And it's just me and her left in this world. So you could say that I live at home, but really it's just me and my mom taking care of each other.
