A young mother of five in Texas was run over by a car and killed outside her home while defending her 11-year-old daughter from bullies, authorities and her family said. Ashley Lopez, 28, was mowed down during a street fight that started when her 11-year-old daughters bullies showed up outside her San Antonio home the evening of Jan. 11, KENS 5 reported. My granddaughter was being bullied from kids from school, Lopezs mother, Ana Blanco, told the news station. Blanco said her daughter, Lopez, intervened when the 11-year-olds tormenters caused a massive fight in the street. As the argument escalated, Pennie Gomez, 36, got into her silver Hyundai Sonata and intentionally drove over two women, killing Lopez and injuring the other, according to the outlet. At least five witnesses told police they saw Gomez intentionally driving into the crowd, the arrest affidavit states.

People were hitting the car, telling her stop and that [Lopez] was under there and she wouldnt stop, said Blanco. Gomez continued to drive, dragging both women several feet with her car, before driving away, according to the affidavit. Cellphone footage provided to authorities confirmed the witnesses statements. The slain mothers family said they didnt know Gomez, but believed her daughter was living at Lopezs house at the time of the hit-and-run. To our recollection, [Lopez and Gomez] were not fighting. There was nothing between them, no bad blood, said Lopezs sister-in-law Andrea Mata. Police later arrested Gomez in connection to Lopezs death.

She was the mother of a girl that was friends with the bully victim, and was living at the home of the mother that she ran over. She apparently decided to assert herself into her daughter's life in the worst way possible.

Wait I'm still confused. So her daughter was friends with the bully victim. So why would the mom side against her daughter's side in the conflict? I had assumed her daughter was one of the bullies. I don't understand what happened

I...I don't...so she saw the mother arguing with the bullies, hopped in her car and decided to run over the mom despite the fact their kids are friends? What...? Nothing about this story makes sense other than the mom defending her daughter.

I'm guessing when she saw the two women fighting she hopped in her car thinking she was going to dramatically cause the fighting to cease, but she turned her brain off once she put her foot to the pedal and floored it. Then only after she heard people banging on her car door telling her that she had ran over someone did reality reassert itself and she realized she fucked up hard then tried to flee.

You guys are assuming a lot here. Let's remember, the person who said she was getting bullied was the victim's grandmother. Maybe she was, but that's not the most objective source. I don't have much experience with bullies actually showing up to my house, in person, to continue their bullying. However, I do have experience with kids showing up in my neighborhood to kick my ass because I was previously running my mouth about them or did something to them at school. When kids show up at your house its usually because they're pissed off and mad.
