I'd say in general wrpg tend to be more detailed on description on skills. If I have a buff. I want to know if it raises my attack by 25% or 50%. Jrpg tend to have characters to repeat the events happening a little too much though

Jrpg tend to have more relationships within playable characters while wrpg often only have events related to the main character. Mass effect 2 is one of my favourite games of all time, but I wish Thane had events with other characters for example that did not consist of just a random conversation on a ship. Non Xenoblade jrpg tend to have a moderate amount of side quests as well while wrpg tend to be bloated with generic crap

jrpgs can learn from wrpgs that there are more plots they can do besides a group of plucky teenagers must band together and adventure across the land to save the world from destruction by an evil dark god who has awakened from 1000 years of banishment

wrpgs can learn from jrpgs that there is profit in blatant unabashed fanservice (but they shouldn't do that)

It don't matter. None of this matters.

i've never beaten a jrpg tbh lol. i usually quit around 1/3 of the way i guess. can't handle them

Jrpgs could learn from Wrpgs that a teenager doesn't always have to be the main character. It's okay to have an MC over 20. Even older than 25!

Japanese RPGs could learn how to be more bad from western RPGs.

See. Final Fantasy XV

The fun part of JRPGs for me has always been how their growth and battle systems are a bit more interesting. They're probably not actually more complex, but they tend to come with more bells and whistles that make things fun to explore. Traditional WRPGs often just stick to some form of D20 thing that gives me a pretty plain and boring feeling. So I'd like it if that part improved.

I'd like for both genres but JRPGs in particular to have more lasting outcomes from quests. WRPGs are a lot better at that.

I know thats the stereotype, but I honestly cant remember the last time I played a JRPG with that kind of plot.

I think the belief that games shouldn't have missables has lead to bad game design over the years.

Debatable.

if you talk about the original Mass Effect trilogy(Aside from 1 I guess), I agree, recent open world rpgs are filled with generic crap that adds nothing to the world building

JRPG's should have dialogue choices that actually result in different things happening, alternate ways of completing quests, and variety in builds so that: 1) Success isn't just determined by how high your level is, and 2) The game doesn't play exactly the same as the first time, if you ever want to play it again.

WRPG's should be balanced much better, in the sense that you shouldn't be able to create overpowered builds that basically make the rest of the game a foregone conclusion. Western devs in general are not good at creating challenging games, and lean too hard in giving players absolute freedom, i.e. the freedom to do stupid things and succeed anyway.

ya some do. an wrpg that i thought had too much dialogue was New Vegas but only in one segment (the beginning of Old World's Blues). that shit pissed me off!!!!!!!!!!!!! also planescape torment has a lot of dialogue lol another game i couldnt sit through. bleh

other than those two i find wrpgs pretty tolerable on the dialogue amount

No joke. I recently played Cyberpunk and the game was only challenging at the beginning(although I played on normal) I made a katana build and pretty much destroyed everything without much thoughts

From my experience, they're better than the JRPGs I've played. But you're right that a lot aren't good or good enough at it.

JRPGs could learn to have some more grounded settings as well as have more customizability for the player.
WRPGs could learn to be more colorful and have more than just violent warmonger simulators. Also could use more established female protagonists.

Well I'd say Xenoblade 1 and 2 has an atrocious quality when it comes to side quests, but 3 did them a lot better as it contributed to the world building.

That said even though some rpgs have a few dumb side quests, usually there's not an insane amount of them. Tales of Arise had a nice balance imo, not all side quests need a Shakespearian tale, but when there's too many simple crap like fetch quests, it hinders the quality in general. A fetch quest now and then is not the end of the word, but I swear X1 and X2 felt like chores and I feel the same way about the gig in Cyberpunk. Gigs were not necessary bad, but the stories were boring(most of the time) with no recurring characters which is ironic because the Witcher 3 litterally made me hooked to the story of the side content

I feel like old school JRPGs like the FFs on PS1 had a very good balance of main quest and side quests, I feel like side quests should serve a purpose and not just be mindless fillers, like doing side quests to beat the optional bosses or find the best magics or summons or weapons and armors etc.

not a goddamn side quest to get awarded 300 xp and 2 potions
