Many of these "flyover states" are chock full of progressives that get fucked over by gerrymandering and voter suppression. It's some straight up classist bullshit.

It's a not-so-subtle tactic to marginalize people that are deemed 'unimportant' in the grand scheme of things. Not only is it morally iffy, in the long run marginalization never works out nearly as well as its practitioners think it will.

I mean, it's been a thing nearly forever.

How many movies have you seen where "the wide eyed, optimistic country bumpkin goes to the big city to see how the world REALLY works," or "rural small town is evil/culty?" At their most generous, we get Doc Holiday nonsense where their "primitive charms" win over some city-slicker in some Dances with Wolves way, and those stories are hella problematic in and of themselves.

Then the media/hollywood goes full Surprised Pikachu when they hear that those areas tend to hate their guts.

Democrats could win by landslide if they wanted to. In order to maintain the status quo, they have to let the open capitalists win from time to time. They know good and well when they're riling people up to be against them when they could otherwise be appealing to people.

It's not an unintended consequence. It's a part of the strategy.

I drove past more people on my way to work today than the amount of people that live in those flyover states. They wouldn't be flyover states if people actually lived there and there were things to do there.

Oh, you don't have to tell me that phrases like 'flyover states' have been attempting to marginalize said people for half a century at least. We've only finally started to see in the past decade or so how poorly that tactic paid off.

The Democratic Party would rather have Donald Trump as president than Bernie Sanders. They showed us as much in 2016.

They're about protecting their own financial interests. Just because one side says that greed is good and the other says that greed is bad, that doesn't mean they aren't both greedy.

The problem is like with most social justice rhetoric it's a way of pushing the problem, incorrectly, off yourself. It's like that dang "south" or those darn "flyover states." When Boston is the most racist city in the US despite being over our imaginary racism line. California also being some liberal communist state yet having some of the most hate groups in the country. It's a stupid way to dismiss something as "NOT MY PROBLEM! THEY'RE THE BAD ONES!"

Yeah the reason they're flyover states in the first place is because they're backwater states that nobody wants to live in. Any progressives that are there likely aren't there by choice.
