Honestly, this show coming out right after Inside Job, and actual good adult comedy, gets cancelled after 1 season....it's pretty infuriating.

Obviously there's no direct correlation there, it just annoys my be brain.

mindy kaling has some clear issues of you've followed her work. despite her being a woman of color i find she definitely struggles with the line between comedy and perpetuating/reinforcing racism/sexism. tina fey has some of that going on but is generally somewhat less problematic. both i think have struggled as the climate and attitude toward "wokeness" have changed

Comedians and comedic actors produce some of the worst animated comedy and I don't know how this keeps happening.

Netflix has like 8 completely dogshit forgettable adult comedies written by comedians.

Mindy Kaling is a Hollywood darling, so that's why this gets made. But even then, they refused to make her original idea and forced her to do it with Scooby Doo characters. But established Hollywood names can get something made.

Still gutted by Inside Job too though. Netflix is legitimately trash for telling them they were going to have another season and just changing their mind. That's complete bullshit and it's a practice happening a lot more--especially mid-filming of TV shows. They need to find a way to cut that down. It's literally ruining lives. The people who worked on Inside Job had turned down other jobs because they thought they would be working on this new season of the show.

I only even started watching Inside Job because I'd heard it was renewed for a Season 2.

I watched the first episode. It's not as bad as you're all making it out to be. I laughed a couple times.

It's definitely too self-referential / meta for my tastes, but it's not offensively terrible.

Definitely should just be an original show and not Scooby-Doo related.

Teen Titans GO does not deserve the bad wrap it gets (except for fart jokes and stuff but toilet humor is a bane on society in any property), but the idea that it could be better than the original is absurd, lol.

Episode 2 beated. Again, it's not a great show,and I probably won't watch Ep3 when it comes out, but I probably enjoyed it more than I enjoyed the Venture Bros Scooby-Doo parody episode, which is 100% the worst episode of Venture Bros in the entire series.

Honestly the Venture Bros Scooby-Doo episode isn't very good. "What if the Mystery Inc Gang were all serial killers" is a clever idea but it ends up being pointlessly edgy in a way that goes nowhere. Pretty uncharacteristic of the show, honestly.

I mean it's not great but bad Venture Bros is still better than most, definitely better than this.

The Venture Bros Scooby Doo episode is one of the few not written by Hammer or Publick.I think it was written by the creator of the Tick, who I normally really enjoy, but tonally I agree that it felt "edgy" in a way that the rest of the series doesn't. The humor in that one episode feels legitimately mean-spirited in a way the rest of the series doesn't.

Maybe I did exaggerate when I said it's the worst episode ever though. There's some pretty boring ones in Season 5.

yeah it's pretty rough

goes waaaaay too meta to the point of being obnoxious in the very first scene

after that it's ok at best

I did get a smirk out of the dramatic funeral cover of Pony though

Watched the first two episodes. Its not very funny, but I dont think its as terrible as people are saying. Like I was still entertained seeing what weird thing would happen next and the visuals for Velmas hallucinations are actually pretty cool looking so props to the animators at least. Ill likely watch more just to see where it goes.

That's how stuff like Netflix Bebop and Death Note, and movie like Bright, hit the top of their charts.

thats a fun theory, but I think its more likely that Mindy Kaling is making something she genuinely thinks is good rather than playing some kind of 4d chess by making it suck on purpose

ok it looks like the most impressive thing Velma outperformed would be Adventure Time: Distant Lands? The list of Max original animation isnt exactly full of hits.

Maybe this series will end with a twist where the real Scooby Doo cast shows up and pulls off the masks of these imposters

Only watched the first episode. A nice thing I can say is the animation and backgrounds look pretty good. It seems like it should just be an original teen comedy since it has nothing to do with Scooby Doo whatsoever. There were a couple good jokes here and there but overall the writing was pretty bad. The meta and woke stuff was terrible, and the pregnant photoshoot scene.....wtf.

It might be both. She might genuinely think it's good, but it may have been greenlit just to crash down hard.

She's someone who doesn't really "get it", but she thinks she does.
