I went with a date that night. I was the only one among my friend who went who had a date, though one of them said that it was a good thing because he could dance with whoever he wanted to.

Yeah I went twice. First my junior year because my girlfriend was a senior, so I went to her's. Then my normal senior one with another girl. Both sucked.

I didn't go. The idea seemed really stressful at the time. You have to worry about asking someone, wondering if they'll say no or not, and then worrying about things like what to wear, and so on. I didn't really have many friends so all in all it just didn't make much sense for me to even bother.

What would the benefits have been if I went? None. I probably would have been nervous the entire time.

I bought tickets then my date wasn't able to go so I went solo and it sucked and then I got a drinking ticket.

Senior prom was at the City Museum in St. Louis, which fucking ruled, and I ended up being voted the prom king for some reason. My best guess is that I have the same first name as the prom queen's boyfriend and people got confused.

I will say that didn't bang on prom night either time. Junior year was actually kinda weird cause we fucked like rabbits that whole school year, just not that night.
I wasn't dating the girl I went with senior year.

I wish I did, but unfortunately, my mom was the one who dropped us off and picked us up, and being a pretty strong Christian, she would not have stood for me doing that (she didn't even want us alone in my room when she came over).

i was asked twice, but declined. I was too closeted to go as i would have wanted to, and wouldn't have made it through the night in drab.

Sophomore Mi was good friends with the first girl, but i was completely oblivious to how much she had been crushing on me. pretty much ruined the friendship. she graduated that year, and we didn't talk much after i declined. one of my biggest regrets was never giving her the real explanation.

Senior Mi was asked by the younger sister of a friend who was a year older than i was. i knew her, but not very well. again, oblivious, but that was pretty much the only way i could make it through high school social life.

I'm imagining myself getting the shit slapped out of me for thinking they are made of money and what's wrong with my plain T-shirts and carpenter jeans from wal-mart and those dances are just full of whores and dilenquents getting drunk or high we don't want you going there anyway!

Yeah, I went. I tried to ask out my best friend's little sister, but she was like "I'll think about it and let you know" and then never got back to me. So I went with my best friend instead, because her boyfriend hated dancing and refused to take her.

What's funny is, after the prom, her little sister was mad at me for not taking her. Not my fault she basically left me on read lol.

Yes, I did and I had a great time with a beautiful girl as my date. Also, like the Sinbad movie "Shazaam!" it never actually happened to me. It was just a Madella Effect.

Short answer. Unfortunately, no. I didn't and I still regret it 13 years later. My one chance for a first date and I blew it big time. With almost everybody my age married (or at least in a cohabiting relationship), I've seriously, been thinking about giving up trying.

Maybe not everyone was meant for a love or even a relationship. Sure, it would have been nice for someone of the opposite sex to have feelings for me, but, oh well. Not everything in life goes your way, I suppose.

I'm sure some of the couples do end up having sex on prom night, but TV absolutely makes it a bigger deal than it really is.

Like, my prom was on a retired ocean liner called The Queen Mary. It had a romantic atmosphere, since the deck overlooking the ocean sunset. So you could woo a girl in that kind of scenario.

But for the most part it was just a school dance with extra bells and whistles. Prom is seen as a night for teenagers to experience a more formal event (even though we also had a winter formal )

Not to sound like an emo dork but I didn't like very many people from high school. I remained friends with one person I graduated with. I had no desire to go to my prom.

I didn't want to but my Grandparents visited specifically to attend my graduation so I had no choice but to go. My date ended up being some girl I didn't know, her friend was someone else's date so she wanted to go too and I agreed. We barely spoke to each other all evening and I don't even remember her name anymore.

Anyway, the entire thing sucked and I wish I never went.

Never heard of it. I'm sure they held one but that's just how disinterested I was in school events. I only went to mandatory ones.

No. Nobody did and it was cancelled.

Grade 11 I went and had a date. Grade 12 I was gonna go with two girls but only because the one I really wanted to go with didn't really wanna go with me and her friend convinced her to go if she came with me as well. The one I really wanted to go with backed out and I went with the other one only. In retrospect it worked out well. I was ridiculously infatuated with the one I didn't get to go with, but the one I did I still hung out with a solid 8 plus years later.

Nope. The amount of signs I missed willingly as a kid was sad looking back. But oh well.

Judging from one of the posts, is it common for girls to ask boys to prom or is it only the other way around?

If that were the case, then I would be extremely sad that no one liked me enough in high school to do so.

Nope, that wasn't common at my school. Usually the guy had to do the asking.

I tried to but I was met at the door by the dean and police, who then threatened to arrest me and the 5 people I was with for trespassing since we arrived 30 minutes late due to dinner reservation issues.

Needless to say they didn't like me very much
