https://www.yahoo.com/news/nyc-grocery-stores-consider-locking-220920961.html

Things have reached a tipping point. The grocery industry has flagrantly violated a social contract with the people and the result is that people are taking what they cant afford to buy. We arent going to go without something we need when you cant justify the amount you raised the price.

Now they want to increase the penalties for people who cannot pay. They want to lock everything behind a case when the answer is to lower the prices and pay the workers a fair wage. Also, if you want to stop theft then stop short staffing everything to avoid writing paychecks. Yeah we all know what youre doing and its your own fault. You put four workers on the floor to watch 500 people and of course more stuff is going to go missing.

CEOs need to take home smaller paychecks and we need harsh legislation from preventing them from every trying this again. We also need to remove (and potentially imprison) and lawmaker found owning stock that benefits from this in any way, shape, or form.

Oh, and your workers arent traumatized by someone stealing a loaf of bread. Theyre traumatized from being forced to do the work of eight people for half the pay of one.

What if it turns into an endless cycle lol

Stores raise prices
People steal cuz the price is too high
Store has to raise price to offset loss of stolen items
People steal more cuz the price is too high
etc.

It's not really an endless cycle other than people will always feel entitled to other people's labor.

Im not saying that CEOs should be paid less(they should), but dont act like the savings from their pay cut would be enough to offset inflation, and the cost of giving raises to all the employees.

I worked at Walmart when I was younger and I didn't cry about Walmart's bottom line when people shoplifted. But I still think now if one of my friends who makes plenty of money was like "I just stole some packs of Pokemon cards from Walmart because **** paying for them" I'd still think less of them.

A retainer is a fee a person pays a lawyer to retain his/her services in case the client needs the lawyer at a future time. A good attorney doesnt need an upfront payment, because they only take cases they are sure they can win.

The social contract between a business and its customers is that businesses will offer products or services that work (ie can be consumed safely or operated as advertised) and people can pay for that with legal currency, if they want.

Thats pretty much it, setting aside having to satisfy government standards. Anything else youre just making up, which is why someone would describe what youre advocating as entitled.
