Is something thats actually happening? Because I live in one of the most expensive cities in this country and I'm paying $900 for rent. If you are paying $1500 for a one bedroom you are insane. If it's a two bedroom get a roommate or downgrade.

Like why do you guys have to keep making up theoretical situations that aren't happening to justify stealing?

You're lying through your teeth or you have the most generous landlord in the world. studios in the most expensive cities start WELL over a thousand. Anyone who rents to you that low in one of "the most expensive cities" is eating losses through the property taxes alone

Not defending theft and it's wrong and illegal but with the system so broken and more and more poor people priced out of living a good life what sort of society do you expect? America is so broken right now.

Getting a less expensive apartment, getting a better job, getting a roommate, applying for government assistance programs, going to a food pantry, leaving NYC, some combination of those things. My imaginary friend did all of those things and he hates shoplifters.

I have a 30 minute commute from my job. If I lived downtown yea itd be impossible unless i lived in what we call neverland which is really sketchy and bohemian place downtown, but major cities have suburbs with cheaper rent.

I've got a solid job with benefits, a 2022 car, and a stable home situation.
I didn't start out that way, or grow up that way.

You literally don't have reading comprehension skills if you can't parse a basic metaphor.

You really do need to educate yourself on privilege and how it affects people's day to day lives.

This is the golden age to learn a new skill and thrive. There's a shortage of so many services because boomers all retired, immigration is way down, so there's tons of opportunities.

I'm not denying frivolous lawsuits exist. Just that this classic example was not as simple as just "hot coffee is hot", it was un-safely hot and they were fully aware of how many burns were caused but it was quicker for them to get it out to customers if they kept it way hotter.

And she only asked for medical bills. The reason she was awarded additional punitive damages is because juries don't look favorably on companies doing things they know might harm people with the strategy of "well if anyone successfully sues us we'll just pay their medical bills and move on".

Uh... did you not read the OP? The whole thread is about NYC. And there are tons of $1500 apartments in NYC, you're probably not paying $3000 unless you live in one of the rich neighborhoods, and even then you could find something lower. I know from experience. Is this a joke account?
