If people did go after Pegg he already left himself an out in that interview. He specifically said he watched all the films. The most baffling thing about both of these topics, and Ive read them both completely, is anyone letting anyone decide what they can or cannot like.

How do you make a trans character, exactly? I'm confused how that will work. Do they start off as one gender but you can change it midway through the game? Is it just something you can write on their backstory/background page?

Yes and no. I understand why he has a problem with the idea of seperating the art from the artist and I can empathize with that. The reason he was getting dog piled (imo rightly so) is because the majority of the CEusers he was attacking leaned left. So when you go around and throwing labels on people who are technically on "your side" you're going to get massive pushback. This is very different from topics like Dave Chappelle because there's a bigger overlap of left leaning people, LBGTQ+, and Harry Potter fans.

I agree with your first part because nothing good ever comes from telling others what they should or can't do, but I'm still on the "words have power" fence. Ignoring is good against random nobodies, but JK Rowling isn't some nobody, she has influence and that influence can be weaponized. Maybe not to an extent like Kanye West going full Nazi, but her anti-trans rhetoric is being backed up by right leaning, alt right, conservative/republican influencers as well. I do think people should still be able to freely criticize others out of their own free will, I step my foot down though the moment they start trying to gaslight and guilt trip others to do the same.

I'm guessing they can choose a body type of a female but then allow you to choose your gender... or something. In order for a trans/gender fluid option to work they really need to provide a lot of freedom regarding it. I know Cyberpunk 2077 got a lot of shit when they made it so that the tone of your voice is what dictates your gender, so hopefully they don't go down that route.

I guess the boycott didn't have a significant impact on sales.

Ok that makes sense. I suppose they'll need to allow all body types to be used in conjunction with each other, i.e a "male" body type can use "female" movements, interchangeable voices, as well as facial features, etc.

From what was shown of the character creator, there are two voices, a masculine and feminine, and you can alter the pitch for either. The pre-set faces are available regardless of what options you pick. Last you can choose whether you're addressed as a witch or wizard.

I will say that in principal, I 100% agree with you. In a perfect world all conflicts can be dealt through dialogue and people with evil ideas/bad takes will be ignored and forgotten by the public. The issue is, reality doesn't agree with my principals and I learned this through my 32 years of living. People will pay attention to shitty people like Rowling and some will even use her (or her use them) to spew anti-trans that gets empowered. Reality shows that the only real way to combat crap like this is to deplatform them like we did with Alex Jones and Milo Yinniapolus, which is a whole other can of worms I don't really want to talk about. Like I said, I agree with you in principal but I don't think it works in practice. I wish it did.

Though I will agree with you about the controversy. It seems to only be a "controversy" in very specific parts of the internet. My wife is part of a Harry Potter community on facebook, yes my wife still uses facebook, (with members in the 6 digits) that are nothing but excited for this game and they even post a bunch of "fuck JK TERFling" memes. A lot of the members are left leaning, a decent amount of those who identify LGBTQ+, and hate JK Rowling. You get those who troll the group every once in a while, but just like CE they mod and ban people very quickly. I kinda wish I liked harry potter series more because they seem to be really cool people to hang out with as well. I'm just hoping this game can match the level of hype these fans are giving it lol.

for a boycott to work it generally needs more organization than anything that was going on here, especially for something as ubiquitous as this game. it was never anything more than an exercise in people wanting to express themselves about how frustrated they were about jk rowling making money regardless of what anyone told themselves

In this case only Warner Brothers would be at fault. They paid her for the license so they could make the game. Why is nobody "boycotting" them?

I'm extremely passionate about worker's right just as I am LGBTQ+ rights. Good news, they revised the minimum settings so people with older hardware can still play it. Old minimum requirements were i5 8400 and a GTX 1070. For those who want the absolute best experience, at least they provide what you need for ultra/ 4k.
