And I honestly I didn't love it entirely. It's probably the worst souls except Dark Souls 2.

I upgrade system is overly convoluted and confusing, I hate the weird crystal lizard rules.

World tendency is a mess. And since I don't play online and dabble with invasions I completely fucked over my world by dying too many times as a human. Trashy, half baked mechanic.

Don't like the bosses here. They're all piss easy but you usually always die at least a few times because they all have some gimmicky mechanic and it takes a few tries to figure out the solution. And the runbacks are abysmal here. 5-1, 2-2 and 1-4 are really bad offenders. I only really liked Old King Allant, Penetrator and the Old Monk here.

Also is the soundtrack here is pretty lame. I played the remake so maybe that has something to do with it.

Also don't like that the world isn't all connected and it's all linear levels.

I get it's unfair to criticise it since it's the first of its time but still thought I'd shout my opinion.

Eh, i give DeS a pass because its the first in the series, and it laid a foundation that Dark Souls 1 excelled on.

That's kind of a shame, you being harsh on the bosses for being easy. I like this one because it was full of weird ideas and wasn't afraid to let you absolutely bulldoze some of the bosses. It's more interesting than invuln frame dodge combat to me.

DeS' appeal before they remade it and sold it for 70 bucks is that it's the pre-souls-formula chaos simulator where you're free to absolutely terrorise the game once you're familiar with it.
I think it absolutely deserves a second playthrough with added hindsight. When I first got into it, it really had me trying to

Well, if you miss the plank bridge 5-1 would seem like a nightmare. From Software seemed to know that 5-1 was a difficult stage though, so the boss is one of the easiest in the game. 2-2 can be annoying, as you repeatedly dash past the miners and platform down the large pit. 1-4 can be helped a bit if you kill the Blue Dragon. It is possible to get an NPC to help you do that. He'll pull aggro while you stand under the dragon's head and fire projectiles up at it.

its been a while since ive played em but iirc its a 1 to 1 remake.

All criticism is fair, but it was the first in the franchise so I give it some passes on some things they hadn't refined very well yet. I enjoyed it the first time on PS3 and again on PS5, but probably not gonna new game+ or platinum grind this one.

I think most people prefer the remake ost, but ill always like the original more. The remake makes all the music feel homogenized with its bombastic orchestra. But thats just my opinion.

the level design is probably my favorite in the series aside from bloodborne. I really liked the level select and the setting.

Oh and it has my favorite npcs. Biorr is the og co-op bro.

The remake is great.

I remember killing the tutorial boss and when he died these blue (IIRC) lights flew out of his body. I was amazed at how nice the lights looked. I know it's a small detail and dumb but I was impressed.

I can't get into any of the souls mainline games for some reason. I love bloodborne and elden ring and even knock off games like the surge and salt and sanctuary

I played Demons Souls remake last year after Elden Ring and absolutely loved it. The graphics are insane and I loved how simple it felt in comparison to Elden Ring. Just a bare boned souls experience

I will say I found it stupidly easy also, which idk if it had to do with playing it directly after Elden Ring or just years of having Souls experience now. But I remember it being brutal when I beat the original on PS3 years ago

Yeah it's a 1 to 1 remake, they added some new animations and maybe some kind of new item I can't remember, but other than that it is basically exactly as you remember it. Just looking fucking GORGEOUS, the online is functional and is still one of my more favorite Souls game. Dark Souls 2 is way worse. Demons and Bloodborne are my top tier (with DS3 right below them).

Demons is really brutal and unforgiving which, at the time in 2009, was a complete opposite path the way the industry was going. It is aggravating, it is annoying, and it can be wildly painful but I was there for it.

Oh neat then. I just got a PS5 so I started my playthrough and am getting rekt but I'm doing my typical Pally build but perhaps I should get that armor set on this go round.

The final boss having a grab attack that delevels you is peak bullshit game mechanics.

Players can get that too, minus the locking grab animation. If you ever find someone AFK while you have the Soulsucker spell equipped...

I feel these are fair criticisms to have. that said, I do also forgive the game for these archaic features because it was the first in the series and I think it still holds up well in spite of them. the remake is so damn pretty too, way better looking than elden ring imo.

One thing I wish they added was a respec mechanic. It's real easy to fuck yourself over

You could become so hilariously OP in this game. It was something like Meat Cleaver/Dragon Bone Smasher + Regen shield + Regen ring + low aggro range ring + Soul Ray.

You could also repeatedly warp to Storm King's arena and re-kill the manta rays with the Storm Ruler for easy soul grinding.

I need to play this.
When I went through the original, I didn't have a great feel for the mechanics. I just made a character that could sort of try everything. I mostly used a 2 hander and dps raced a large amount of the bosses. I also didn't understand the weight stuff at all. I'd like to see what all of my souls experience could get me. Or maybe just poison stuff and hide to cheese my way through

Beat it earlier this year, I liked it, was hard as hell though cause Ive never played a Souls game before
