idk the live action ending, but in the manga there was a meteor rain at tokyo and the participants are the victims of the incident and they're drifting in a realm between life and dead, that's why it's called BORDERland. those who survived the game survived in real life, including MC, the sporty girl, and a few others.

there's also a mini sequel and a spin-off.

What's the spinoff called?I've read the minisequel but I didn't know about the other.

Finished it last night myself, set up for a potential 3rd season but if not, I didnt hate the ending.

manga fans are actually upset at the mini sequel at first.
most of the complaints was "wtf dude, let arisu live in in peace. he don't deserve this shit again."

I can't remember who it was, but they said that during the Queen of Hearts game when Arisu is about to give up, it's his dialogue with his dead best friends that motivates him to continue instead of Usagi begging him. In the show that dialogue happens after the game is done when he returns to the real world

The bit where she gives like 5 lies didn't really make any sense in a way that it was unnecessary. Also kind of dragged on too long for it not to be a main part of the story. Like does the bitch of genjutsu or something?

In the manga the tea she gives Arisu has a hallucinogenic substance in it. He drinks it and Usagi doesn't. Don't know why they didn't adapt that pretty important part of the scene.

The one thing I didn't quite get is why they kept calling back to the fireworks before the transition to the borderlands happened. Was it just an event that all the participants/survivors remembered before s*** went down and nothing else?

So were Citizens just playing the game's for shits and giggles?

Having recently read it I agree. There wasn't even a new story to be told as Arisu learns the exact same lessons all over again.

i think the lesson is not for Arisu, the theme was "if everyone worked together instead of trying to kill each others, none of the tragedies will happen." it was to see the world in more positive take.

Basically. They were people that got trapped in the Borderlands like the current players. And they decided to stick around because they liked living like that.
How they ended up with insane technology and the means to build/maintain all that stuff is never explained.

The way I took it was that the ones that stayed behind died and became citizen to help other people cross over to the after life.

I mean...they made it pretty clear that dead in the Borderlands means just plain dead. So I don't see how they could've died and then became citizens.
And I don't see them being about helping to cross over either. One half of the face cards were all about reasons for living and how you need to live life your own way, basically instilling the will to live and the other half just liked fucking with people.

Without thinking about it too hard. I think they are dead based on the fact that they made it a point to not show any of the people in the hospital that decided to stay or report their names. They could be "missing", but in life when a body is missing after a catastrophe we still label them as dead. "Helping" also doesn't have to be positive. Regardless of the reason killing people in the borderlands is still helping people pass on to the after life.

Either way, I don't think borderlands is a real place just a place holder for people on the edge of dying.

Yup, exactly, but they showed his bare ass a ton of times.

Okay, that alone convinces me to watch the live action show now lol. I already read the manga, but it's always interesting to see how certain scenes get adapted.

I loved Mira and Urumi, the two crazy girls in this show.

Ann is best girl in the show. And best looking girl too. Ayaka Miyoshi is a beauty. I love short hair too so that helps.

I was low key hoping season 2 would devolve into a Harem Anime with Arisu and all the babes

Was not a fan of the end of episode 7 where people are getting cut in half with rifles, shot in the head, stabbed in the guts but still lived long enough to exit the game.
