What is Game of the Month Club Replay?

Game of the Month Replay is a community project based upon the Game of the Month Club. Much like the GOTM Club, it's open to all B8ers where users share, discover, play and/or discuss a bonus chosen game every month. The two games featured each month are chosen by YOU the users (and Lady Luck).

The only catch is, it must be a game that the GOTM Club has already played, so it's an opportunity to replay games you may have missed out on the first time or just want to try again.

The Basics

- Each month will usually feature two games that were chosen via a random drawing from a pool of games that users nominated
- For each of the games you beat you get a cool point on our just-for-fun standings as well as a nomination for next month's randomized drawing
- In order to receive the point and nomination, you must beat said game within the calendar month
- If you beat one of the current month's games in the previous month, you can apply for a "recently beaten waiver," but you will only receive a point and no nomination should you do so
- Drawing for next month's game is usually on the 25th
- If you periodically keep us posted on your progress and/or talk about different aspects of the games, then everyone will think you are super awesome!

Nomination Rules

- You get one nomination automatically each month
- You receive additional nominations each month for beating one of the featured games
- Each game you nominate has to be one that was already nominated for the GOTM Club.
- You can nominate games that have already been selected for the Replay Topic, but not the same game twice in a row.
- Each game must be a standalone game that can be acquired and played on its own (aka cannot be DLC/expansion that requires the base game)
- Nominations only carry over if you beat a featured game after the drawing for next month's game but before the end of the month

New Order I just played a few months ago, so won't be playing that again. It's a pretty damn fun game though!

Yes, that sounds right to me. I don't have a list right now. Did you want one? I'm allowing games to be replayed multiple times if that's what people want, but if you would prefer to replay a lot of unique games and have a list to make sure you don't repeat too often or at least for a while I can add one.

I guess I was thinking that you wouldnt want to have a game repeated for a period of time, like maybe a year? So it would be good to know whats been re-done.

You could possibly create a simple Google spreadsheet with the Just For Fun Standings and monthly history on what was selected.

I was going to allow it so long as it wasn't the same as the previous month if there was a demand. But if people don't want that to happen a year could work.

Beaten Oxenfree

That was wild. Some kind of new game + opened that I'll definitely be giving a try later; Want to complete Psychonauts 2 first, I've been waiting a while for this one..

I've started on Oxenfree. Its kind of been what I expected but also kind of not.

I bought the physical edition for ps4 off eBay for $73 because I'm certifiable about getting physical copies.

Oxenfree finished!

Interesting game but I'm not super huge on narrative games. I found it somewhat annoying how the dialogue you chose would often interrupt the other characters. But I just resigned myself to going with the flow, making decisions, and trying not to worry about figuring out what's the "right" answer.

In the end, Jonas became my brother, Ren and Nona didn't date, and I saved Clarissa. Apparently you could actually save Michael too. Then again, I suppose none of it really matters because it seems like you're just stuck in a time loop anyway! No real desire to do any replays for different endings.

Oxenfree beaten

I got the same results that Seanchan did. Apparently I torpedoed Ren and Nona's chances immediately while trying not to. Whoops.

Overall I thought it was cool, though I can't help but think it'd have been better as an animated film, or even a VN. Anything that takes out the filler of walking around incredibly slowly. I also feel like it didn't really stick the landing. The ending feels like a weird mix of contrivances to both let the characters succeed but also to screw them over. So everything goes perfectly for Alex somehow and she closes the portal and escapes, but then there's the stinger revealing they're still in the time loop because, uh, reasons. And yeah, definitely can't be bothered to play through it again for the secret ending.

I'm not sure if I'm going to beat Wolfenstein/Oxenfree before the drawing, so I will make a nomination now.

Oxenfree also had this issue where you could learn information out of the intended order and have characters refer to things you didn't know yet; it stuck out extra hard because of all the times the dialogue did take into account all your choices.

I should be able to beat Oxenfree, but most likely not before the drawing.

The update is technically today since it's the 25th now, but I like to do it at the end of the day so you still have about 23 hours left.

The Last of Us and Alan Wake are the two games for February! Congratulations to the winners, Seanchan and myself.

Yeah, being unavailable to game for a week this month ultimately did me in. I'm in the second half of Wolfenstein, but I'm not going to power through the final six or seven chapters just to clear it today.

I did end up playing The Old Blood, which is a stand alone prequel to The New Order.

It was fine but certainly not on the level of the main game. Which is odd because a lot of the times I find those standalone DLCs to be better because theyre shorter and more to the point. Just wasnt the case here.
