Where you (an advertiser) tries to convince the people that something is important when it doesn't actually affect them.

Fir example a commercial saying "think of the future and your children... stop the Lexus and Maserati tax"

That would be them trying to appeal to your pathos. Pathos is the least intellectual and logical form of persuasion, yet it seems to be the most effective. For example, when a commercial shows steam billowing out of a nuclear power plant, more often than not it's accompanied by some message how this is pollution and it must be stopped before it destroys the planet or something. No facts given, just the image of clouds coming out of this massive ugly chimney with a bit of meaningless jargon sprinkled in. If you actually did the research on nuclear power plants, you would know that nuclear energy, while at a risk of meltdowns, is the most sustainable clean energy there is. Those clouds billowing out of its "smokestacks?" That's just condensed water, nothing more.

But did that water consent to being condensed? Can we really be sure, when all we've got to go on is the word of a bunch of nuke-heads who are probably just a bunch of water rapists? I don't think so.
